In Reception this half term, we have been studying the artist Laurence Lowry and his artwork. He is famous for his paintings of places in the city where lots of people live and work to make things.

We looked at one of his famous paintings ‘Coming from the Mill.’ We talked about what we could see in the painting and developed our vocabulary. We used this painting to recreate our own. We used chalk to create lots of buildings using lines and shapes and darker shades of colours.

After creating the buildings we then looked at all of the people in the painting and talked about how the people are like match stick figures that don’t show lots of detail. We had a go at adding in lots of match stick people to our own artwork to show the workers and passersby. We used thick granite pencils to add our people to show a busy scene.

Reception produced some impressive artwork which they are very proud!
