In Year 4, we have started our new topic “Wild Weather and Extreme Earth”.

We began our topic by looking at maps and trying to work out what all the lines mean! We have learnt about lines of longitude and latitude, and named lines like the Equator, the Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn and the Arctic Circle.

You may think that the Arctic and Antarctica are the same because they are both very snowy and cold places, but they are actually very different.

After hearing about these differences, we made a Venn diagram to show the similarities and differences between these two places. The main difference is that the Arctic is water surrounded by land and Antarctica is land surrounded by water. It doesn’t sound like a big difference but this affects the weather and climate of these two places. Have a look at some of our work!
