This week in Maths, the children continued their learning about measure by exploring volume and capacity through a range of practical activities.
We learnt important vocabulary associated with measuring volume such as full, empty, half full, almost full, and almost empty.
We then explored different containers together and talked about how much liquid each one might hold. The children carefully looked at the images and decided whether the containers were full, half full, empty, almost full, or almost empty, explaining their thinking using the new vocabulary.
To continue our learning, we took the activity outside for some hands on water exploration! The children investigated a range of containers including bowls, tubs, and bottles. Each child was given a cup and challenged to make a prediction about how many cups of water they thought would be needed to fill their chosen container completely.
The children then tested their predictions by carefully pouring cups of water into the containers and counting as they went. They were excited to find out whether their estimates were correct and showed great perseverance.
It was wonderful to see the children so engaged in their learning while developing their understanding of volume and capacity.
Well done everyone!
