This week in Maths, Year 1 Year 1 were busy comparing numbers using the greater than (>), less than (<) and equals (=) signs with the help of Blockzilla!
To begin, we watched a Numberblocks video all about Blockzilla, who LOVES big numbers! We learnt that Blockzilla always faces the bigger number because he loves them so much (but don’t worry, he only wants to meet them, not eat them!).
We then had a go at comparing different numbers on the whiteboard, deciding which number was greater and which Blockzilla card we needed to use to make our number sentences correct.
Next, it was time to put our learning to the test in our workbooks! The children used unifix cubes to build and compare the numbers in their questions, before choosing the correct Blockzilla card to complete each number sentence. They did brilliantly and even managed to challenge themselves by solving some tricky missing number problems!
Well done, Year 1! You are such excellent mathematicians, and I am so proud of your hard work today!
