Today Nursery had so much fun visiting Willows Farm!
We started by getting on the bus and driving about an hour to the farm. Once we arrived we were greeted by our tour guide and shown where to put our bags. We walked through the farm to our first activity. On our way to this activity we met Benjamin bunny! This was so fun and everyone got a high five! Then we walked to milk the pretend dairy cow Daisy. We learnt that we get milk from a cow, through the udder and we have to squeeze the teat to get the milk out.
We then walked across to watch the real life cow get milked. We learnt that cows milk can be turned into butter, ice cream and cream. We also learnt that the milk comes out of the cow really hot and with a slightly blue colour! The cow that we watched get milk gave 15 litres of milk.
We walked further into the farm and saw where the pigs live, in little metal houses called a Sty! As we walked over, two very large pigs came out and lots of piglets. As it was a hot day they came over to bathe in muddy puddles to cool down and protect their skin from the sun. This was so fun to see such big pigs so close!
Next we went on Tristan the Tractor! We had a fun tractor ride around the farm, seeing lots of animals as we went. We saw a huge cow with very big long horns that was bathing in the water that we needed to drive through! We also saw a highland cow, and a little fluffy calf. The tractor ride was so fun and we had songs to sing along to as we went. This was a lovely and fun way to see lots of the farm.
Then we had a treat and saw a show! We sat and saw Peter Rabbit, Nursery absolutely loved this and were so excited to dance and sing with their favourite character. We also got to watch a sheep race, this was quite hot in the sunshine but was lots of fun choosing which sheep we wanted to win and seeing how fast they could run.
The last activity was Nursery’s favourite, feeding and holding the animals! We held and stroked 3 different guinea pigs, they were so soft and gentle. Then Nursery were given food to gently feed all of the animals; there were donkeys, sheep, goats (mums and babies) and llamas!
It was such a wonderful day and Nursery did so well to walk across the farm and take part in so many activities. We are so lucky to have had this experience! Thank you to the SVPA for funding the trip.
