We have had a great first week in Year 2. We have settled in really well and have been learning and adapting to new routines and expectations and have really impressed our teacher!

We have been busy with lots of learning, as we began by creating our new class charter. We looked at three articles from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and discussed the way that these impact our learning. We then discussed the way in which we can respect the rights of others within the school setting, such as listening to others and always making sure that we include others. These agreements will be placed within our class charter, and we will be able to look back at them throughout the year.

We also held our elections for Green Team and School Council and the children that put themselves up for the roles, had to share a reason why they felt strongly about the role and what their key policies would be! We then held a secret vote and have since decided who will represent us this year.

As a way of sharing more information about ourselves, we have discussed some of our favourite books and have shared why we like them so much. We then used copies of our favourite book covers, and began to carefully sketch them to recreate them in our own way. Once this was done, we used water colours to bring them to life! Have a look at our amazing Reading Corner display below! We are really proud of our work and we also worked really well to share with our learning partners whilst using art materials.

As a starter lesson for Physical Education, we focused on moving around an area in different ways. We practiced jogging, skipping, side-stepping and many more! We turned this into a fun game, where we had to rush into a hoop, ensuring to be safe and sensible as we did this.

We began our computing for Year 2 by considering our digital footprint. We learnt about what this means and understanding what is safe to share online. We became detectives to work out which characters had shared their information in a safe way. We used our magnifying glasses to take on the role, and had to sift through a lot of information to work out whether Sandy Snake, Clucky Chicken or Paula Panther had shared too much private information about themselves. We discussed the ways in which we should act whilst using online devices and also know which trusted adults we can speak to about any of our worries – whether that be online, at home or in school.

We have had such a fantastic time this week and can’t wait to see what we learn next!

Well done for a brilliant first week, Year 2. You have all worked so hard!
