Today in PE, the children explored moving safely and confidently in their own space before taking part in a rainforest themed lesson.
They began by travelling around the area in different ways, such as walking, jogging, skipping and jumping, while changing direction and avoiding others.
We then imagined we were butterflies travelling through the rainforest. The children moved gracefully around the space, using their arms as wings and responding to instructions such as flying high and low, tiptoeing past snakes, ducking under branches and running away from a jaguar. They showed good listening skills and enjoyed enjoyed trying out different movements.
In our games, the children practised awareness, agility and teamwork. In Frog Tag, they moved carefully around the space, changing direction to avoid being caught and joining in enthusiastically as the game developed.
During Snake Bite, some children became ‘snakes’ and others carried ‘medicine’ using tennis balls. When children were ‘bitten’, they froze until a child with medicine came to save them by touching them with the ball. The children worked well together, showing cooperation and tactics as they helped one another.
Finally, in Under the Branches, the children worked in pairs, running as they held hands together and then forming arches when caught by the ‘monkey’s for other pairss to travel under and free them. They showed great coordination and enjoyed taking on different roles within the game.
It was a fun and active session, with the children developing their movement skills, spatial awareness and team work through our games.
Well done Reception! I really loved this lesson with you.
