In our Religious Education topic of ‘Witnesses’ we have been celebrating the good news of Jesus’  resurrection at Easter and exploring what happened next.

After Jesus rose again he appeared to his disciples before he went up to Heaven.
We found and read the scripture in the Bible:
(Acts 1: 6-9) ‘When the apostles met together with Jesus, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time give the Kingdom back to Israel?” Jesus said to them, “The times and occasions are set by my Father’s own authority, and it is not for you to know when they will be. But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After saying this, he was taken up to heaven as they watched him, and a cloud hid him from their sight.’

Then, we created our own unique art pieces, using mixed media, to depict the Ascension which is when Jesus ascended to Heaven to be with God.

This year, the Feast of the Ascension will be celebrated on Thursday 18th May. Here is a special prayer that you could say on that day:

Lord Jesus, who returned to the Father,
Stay with us in Spirit.
Draw near us when we need you,
and guide us to follow your paths.
Amen.

I enjoyed art and it was really fun, this was all about how Jesus rose up to heaven.
    Ascension means going up.

I really enjoyed making our artwork about the ascension of Jesus. It was nice using different materials and colours.

  3. I had lots of fun learning about the ascension. Making the pictures was fun beacause we had so many different things to use .
