This week in RSE, we spoke about our gifts and talents.
To understand this further, we watched an episode of Paradise Street where we met Finn, Leyla, Marcus and Siobhan. In this episode, there was friction over competition and rivalry and the characters learned that difference should be celebrated as enriching to a community. There was discussion about being boastful and we spoke as a class about how we should always feel proud of ourselves but that the way we communicate this can sometimes make others feel upset. Finn discussed his feelings with his mum and she taught him to be aware of his value and that his self-confidence can come from remembering that he is always loved by God. As part of the ‘Delving Deeper’ we learned that we are all unique and can have different family set-ups, gifts and talents.
In our activity, we looked into our identities and finding out who we are. We had to think about hobbies and things that we’re really good at. As part of this, we also had to consider what we might find difficult or what we’re not so good at. We thought about the way that this can make us feel. Later on, we were able to link this to our values and consider what’s really important to us and remember that God loves us just as we are.
What’s something you’re really good at and something that you find quite challenging?
I really enjoyed doing this activity. I’d say that it was one of the most important lessons when we learnt about our different skills and talents. We should remind ourselves that even if you have different talents we are all equal.
