This week, Year 1 began our new Science topic, Animals Including Humans, with an exciting introductory lesson all about our bodies!

We began by getting warmed up with a favourite song, ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, which got us thinking about all the different parts of our bodies. We then worked with our partners to see how many body parts we could name already. The children came up with lots of fantastic ideas and enjoyed sharing their knowledge with the rest of the class.

Next, we created our very own life-sized body by drawing around one of the children. We then explored the names of different parts of the body and worked together to identify where each one belongs. The children loved the challenge of carefully labelling our giant body and were excited to discover some of the more detailed body parts that they hadn’t thought of before!

By the end of the lesson, the children were becoming very confident at naming and labelling different parts of the body. We ended our session with a fun action song to help us remember more of them!

It was a fantastic start to our new Science topic, and we can’t wait to find out more about how our bodies work and how we can keep ourselves healthy!

Well done for your very first Science lesson Year 1!
