Today, after a long wait, it was finally our turn to visit the Floating Classroom. After a very rainy week, we were also lucky enough that our trip was on the one sunny day!

Our Science topics this term are ‘Living Things and their habitats’ and
‘Animals including Humans’ and in today’s activities, we were given many opportunities to consolidate our learning.

We began inside the boat with an introduction to the canal environment.  Then we had time outside on the deck identifying and classifying the various birds that we saw on the  journey

Back inside the boat, we learnt more about the birds that we had seen and about adaptations of water birds.

Next, we learnt more about other animals that live on, in or near the canal, as well as their habitats and the place that they have in the food chain as predators and/or prey.

After that, we got off the boat and had fun exploring Meanwhile Gardens, looking for animals and their habitats in the ponds and under logs and leaves.

Back on the boat, we played games of ‘Guess Who?’ which gave us more opportunities to identify the characteristics of mammals, birds, amphibians, fish and reptiles.

We had such a fun day as well as developing our Science skills and knowledge. Many thanks to the parents who came with us. We really appreciate your support.
