In Design and Technology this term, we’ve been making soft toys targeted at younger children. Although, judging by the enthusiasm of the Year 5s, I suspect they’re going to play with the toys themselves!

We planned and designed our toy, and cut out pieces of fabric to form the ‘body’. Some of us created appendages to be added to the body of the toy and the pieces of fabric were sewn together. We learned how to sew using a blanket stitch and we sewed around the perimeter leaving a gap to add stuffing. Once any appendages and the stuffing was added, we sewed the remaining gap together to complete our soft toy. Take a look at some of the toys we created!

It was very fun making it but it was hard work. First we planned it. Second we drew it on felt. Third we sewed it together (leaving a gap). Fourth we stuffed it. Fifth we sewed it together and then we had a stuffed toy like in the picture.
