This week in Understanding the World lesson, we continued our ‘Jungle’ topic by learning all about the fascinating life cycle of a frog, linking our learning to our Literacy text, ‘Oi Frog!’.
We began by discussing what a life cycle is and revisited our previous learning about the human life cycle from our PSED lessons. The children then watched a video showing the amazing transformation of a frog, from frogspawn to tadpole, froglet, and finally an adult frog.
For our indoor activity, the children worked collaboratively to cut out and sequence each stage of the frog’s life cycle, carefully sticking them into the correct order. Outside, we worked together to create a large life cycle model using pictures, key vocabulary labels and arrows to show how the cycle continues.
It was wonderful to see the children working so well together, using new vocabulary confidently and discussing the changes that happen at each stage of a frog’s life.
Everyone showed great curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored how living things grow and change.
Well done Reception! I really enjoyed doing these activities with you.
