Class 4 looked at the wonderful work of Vincent Van Gogh in our art lessons.

We explore how this famous artist used colour to show mood and feeling in his work.
This led us to discuss different moods and feelings and which colours represent these best.

As our current topic is Wild Weather, we thought about linking our art work to volcanoes.

Before Christmas we looked at a book called Escape from Pompeii in our English lessons. Before Mount Vesuvius erupted, the locals called it The Gentle Mountain because it looked calm and picturesque across the water. However, when the volcano erupted it caused chaos and destruction. We thought about how we could represent this using colours.

As a group, we thought about how volcanoes can look peaceful when they are not active. We looked at photographs of volcanoes from around the world and noticed some even had beautiful plants and forests around them. Some colours that came to mind were pale blues, greens and pastel colours.

We then looked at images of volcanoes erupting. We mostly picked out bold colours like bright reds and oranges to show perhaps anger and violent explosions or lava.

After this, we looked at the work of Deyanira Harris. She created a captivating image of a volcano erupting.

We chose whether to paint an inactive or an active volcano and then chose our colours accordingly.
Have a look at our masterpieces below…
