In our Art and Design this week, we explored mark making through sound. We began by talking about different types of weather, what they look like, and what the children had noticed in their own experiences. They shared ideas such as using umbrellas in the rain, splashing in puddles while wearing wellies, and of course Peppa Pig was mentioned with her love of jumping in muddy puddles.

We then listened to a range of weather sounds and the children guessed which type of weather they could hear. The sounds of rain, thunder, and wind were easy to recognise, while the swirling snowstorm proved more challenging.

Next, we used large sheets of paper to create marks in response to the sounds we heard. The children used sharp, fast marks for stormy weather and swirling, flowing movements when listening to the wind. This activity was a great way for the children to experiment with different types of marks, express their ideas, and explore creativity through sound and movement.
