We started with a short but busy week and it’s been so lovely to welcome the children back to school after the summer holidays!
The week began on Thursday and a general introduction to Year 3, where the children could ask questions and find out about our routines. Following this was our discussion about class rules and a lesson about values and virtues. We learned the difference between the two: the values being what we believe in and the virtues being what we do because of our beliefs. The values and virtues have shaped our class charter and we made promises declaring what we are going to do to make our class a safe and happy place to learn and express ourselves.
For our ‘My Place in the World’ topic, we looked at different maps, comparing and contrasting maps of the world, the UK, London and Marylebone. We managed to find our school on Google Maps and we used ‘Street view’ to take a virtual look at Marylebone High Street. Our investigation question was ‘why do people go to Marylebone High Street?’ so we made a tally chart of the different shops and establishments on the High Street. We found out that most people on Marylebone High Street must be shopping for clothes because they are so many clothes shops. They could also be buying books, jewellery, perfume and homeware as well as using the cafes and restaurants to meet friends and family. Thinking more deeply, we thought about what else is nearby and decided that some people might be travelling to and from work or school.
The next task was to prepare and present a speech for those people who were interested in being school councillors or Green Team representatives. There were some very persuasive speeches which the children had put a lot of thought and effort into. Unfortunately we could only for two representatives for Green Team and two representatives for School Council but well done to everybody who performed a speech for the class.
To begin our new year in Religious Education, we learned all about the saints who our school houses are names after: St Patrick, St George, St Andrew and St David. To finish off a busy couple of days, we had our very first lesson with recorders in Music and we learned how to hold the instrument and play some basic notes in time to backing music.
These first few days have only made us more excited about an exciting year to come! Well done Year 3!
