This half term, Year 4 have begun an exciting new PE unit focusing on tennis. Our focus over the next few weeks is to develop our racket skills and our understanding of the game leading up to taking part in some tennis matches against each other.

In this week’s lesson, we were working specifically on the important skill of returning a serve using both the forehand and backhand. The coaches first showed us how to be in the ready position and hold the racket correctly so we could track the tennis ball carefully. This allowed us to use the correct controlled swings to send the ball back towards our partner. We then finished off with a rally competition to see how which pair could score the highest. It was fantastic to see all the children giving each other confidence and working together to improve their skills.

We look forward to continuing to build our tennis skills over the coming weeks!

Year 4, What did you enjoy about our first tennis lesson?
