Yesterday, we had a wonderful day celebrating our love of books for World Book Day! It was fantastic to see the incredible costumes that everyone had come up with. There were so many creative ideas, and it was brilliant to see so many favourite characters brought to life.

We began the day with a whole-school assembly, where we paraded in our costumes and admired what our teachers had dressed up as this year. We discovered that this year’s theme was Little People, BIG DREAMS, and we spotted lots of famous figures being represented by our teachers!

After assembly, we were excited to welcome Miss McCarry (also known as Taylor Swift for the day!) who came to read her book to us. It was a lovely opportunity to spend time with different teachers and to enjoy listening to a different type of text. Miss Izimova and Miss Robertson also shared their books about Billie Jean King and Vivienne Westwood, helping us learn even more about inspiring people and their achievements.

At 11 o’clock, we joined the BBC Live Lesson for World Book Day, where we thought about our favourite times and places to read. We also completed our “Reading Passports”, mapping out our own personal reading journeys and reflecting on the books that have shaped our love of reading.

Later in the day, we spent some time enjoying quiet reading and listening to our class novel, The Boy at the Back of the Class. Some of us have already read this book independently, but we have really been enjoying listening to it together and can’t wait to find out what happens next.

We also began creating reading recommendations for the Year 4 children. We explored a wide range of texts and genres, carefully thinking about why we would recommend each one. We even illustrated the front covers on the back of our recommendation sheets! We are really excited to share them with Year 4 and hopefully inspire them to discover some brilliant new books.

Throughout the day, we also took part in a World Book Day quiz, which was great fun (although we still have a few questions left to finish!). One of the loveliest moments of the day was welcoming our siblings and family members into the classroom to read with us. It was a really special way to share our love of books together.

Which book has inspired you the most, and why would you recommend it to someone else?
