To help us with our work on Anglo Saxons, we visited the British Museum this week and took part in a workshop where we were able to examine artefacts from the Sutton Hoo collection.

Sutton Hoo is an area in East Anglia, where a very important archaeological discovery was made in 1939: the burial of an Anglo Saxon king within a ship! To begin with, we visited the Sutton Hoo exhibition in the museum and we got to see the famous Sutton Hoo helmet among many other jewels and items discovered there.

We then took part in a digital workshop where we placed the events of the Anglo Saxon period into order.

Our next job was to examine a selection of artefacts digitally using mobile devices. We had to use clues to determine the purpose of each item.

We then finished the workshop by analysing the features of the famous Sutton Hoo helmet and designing our own version of a helmet fit for an Anglo Saxon King on ipads!

The Sutton Hoo workshop was really fun since I got to learn more about Ancient Britain, Anglo Saxons and other invaders who came to Britain long ago.
