This week our Book of the Week has been The Three Billy Goats Gruff and the children have thoroughly enjoyed retelling the story and exploring how the goats tricked the troll.

Outdoors, the children acted out the story together, using their imagination and storytelling skills to bring the tale to life. The goats explained how they had eaten all the grass in their field and spotted another field “chock full” of delicious green grass across the bridge. The only thing stopping them was the hungry troll hiding underneath!

The children confidently took on different roles, using expressive language, teamwork and lots of enthusiasm as they recreated the story. After the little and middle-sized goats cleverly tricked the troll into letting them cross, the biggest brother used his horns to bop the troll into the water before the brothers happily munched the tasty new grass.

Through their play, the children were developing confidence in speaking and listening, building friendships through cooperative role play, strengthening their physical skills outdoors and deepening their understanding of familiar stories and sequencing.
