This half term we are fortunate enough to have MCC (Middlesex County Cricket) come in and work with us on our cricket skills! This week was only our second lesson so we started by using the warm up to show off how well we remember to hold the cricket bats. We were each given a bat and we moved around the space in a variety of ways to get our hearts pumping and we showed off our cricket poses whenever coach told us to freeze.

The focus of today’s lesson was striking the ball with our bats. In groups of 4, we each had a small square and a cone which we could use as a tee. After placing the ball onto the cone, we each had three goes to strike the ball as hard as we could. The job of the other three players was to stop the ball. If the ball managed to get through the square and not get stopped by the other players (the fielders), the batsman or batswoman would receive points.

We had to remember the correct way of holding the bat and we were shown the correct form for hitting the ball. It was a wonderful opportunity to practice the technique for striking the ball without having to deal with a ‘bowl’ and the more we did it, the better we were getting!
