Our first topic in Year 4 will be Ancient Rome and Roman Britain!
When the Romans invaded Britain they brought many brilliant ideas with them. The Romans stayed here for over 400 years and we will be learning about the impact they had on Britain, and the world.
This is a very exciting topic about the beginning of how England came to be the country we know today.
Each week you will have Curriculum homework which links to our topic posted on Google Classroom. You will be able to use the skills and knowledge from the homework in our lessons!
Homework will commence from Monday 12th September.
Before then, I would like you to find out more about the Romans. Use a child-friendly search engine such as Kiddle to answer the following questions as a comment below:
1.) Where did the Romans come from and when did they arrive in England?
2.) Do you know any interesting things that the Romans created/invented? If not, find 3 things the Romans built in England.
3.) What would like to learn about during our Romans topic?

1. Julius Caesar arrived in England in 55BC but it took them a long time to conquer Britain. They came from Rome which is in Italy.
2. They built Hadrians Wall between England and Scotland it began in AD 122. They built towns like Aqua Sulis now known as Bath, and major roads like Watling Street,. They were wide straight roads with no speed limit.
3. I would like to learn how many Emperors there were and why there were no women in charge.

1. The Romans arrived in Britain in 55BC . The Roman Army came from Gaul (France) as they have been fighting there and the Britons had been helping the Gauls in an effort to defeat the Romans.
2. The Romans built structures such as forts and walls including Hadrian’s Wall . The Roman Baths are well preserved thermae in the city of Bath , Somerset . It is design for public bathing. Romans also built a fort beside the River Thames .This was where traders came from all over the empire to bring their goods to Britain .
3. I would like to learn more about Julius Cesar and the influences of Romans in Britain .
1)The Romans came from Rome in Italy and arrived in England in 55BC.

But that was going to change. For around a century, the Roman army had been building an Empire across Europe. Now it came for Britain! In AD 43 the full might of the Roman army landed on the beaches in Kent.
