  9. Dear Mr Kersys,
I have been reading Asterix and Obelix The Papyrus de Cesar by Jean Ferri and Didier Cornand. I would give it the rate 10/10. This story is about Cesar asking his servant to throw a chapter written on paper about his country having war against Gaul. A stranger takes it and brings it to Gaul so that the people living there can read it. A few weeks later, Cesar finds out that the Gauls have it so he starts getting angry as they are his enemies. They always start a battle and the Gauls win. Cesar asks the Gauls to give the papyrus back and he will promise to do what the Gauls want. This happens and the Gauls choose that the Romans will not be able to attack the village. The moral of this story is that peace is more important than anything. I can tell this because the Gauls chose that the Romans were not allowed to attack them any more.

  10. Well done Gabrielle for this brilliant review! It sounds like an exciting story and links so well with our Ancient Rome and Roman Britain topic!

  55. Book review – How Winter Came into the World by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham

There was once a God called Hades. He was God of the Underworld where ghosts were living and it was very boring. One day he was in the Overworld where he saw a beautiful, young lady called Persephone who was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter (Zeus’ wife). He took her into the Underworld and then Hermes came and delivered Hades the message that Demeter would give the Overworld bad weather if he didn’t give her back. Hades gave her back but on the way out of the Underworld she ate three pomegranate seeds from the Underworld which confined her to the Underworld. Zeus made a plan that she would have to stay in the Underworld for 3 months each year. In that time Demeter made the Overworld very cold. That is how winter came into the world.

7/10 because on one hand it was too short but it was still a good story.

  56. Title: How To Shock Your Parents
    Author: Mick Gowar

This book was mainly about styles that sometimes shock people. This is the teddy boy look, you will need a *greasy quiff*,side burns, cowboy string tie, *drape jacket with a velvet collar*, *drainpipe jeans*, fluorescent socks and slip in suede shoes.

This is the hippy look, you will need long hair, granny glasses, necklace made from melon, seeds, beads, bell, flowery shirt, crushed velvet loon pants, sandals, Woodstock album and a lord of the rings book.

This is the punk look, you will need hair shaved at the sides, hair combed upright with lots of hair gel, ears and nose pierced, safety pins worn instead of rings or studs, necklace made from chain and padlock, T-shirt deliberately ripped and mended with safety pins, short tartan skirts deliberately frayed around the hem, torn fishnet tights (black) and Dr Marten workman’s boots.

This is the New Romantic look, you will need coloured hair grown long, elaborately waved hair sprayed to stay in place, elaborate make up – for boys and girls, wide sleeved styled shirt with lace collar and cuffs, long 18th century style waistcoat, breeches, pirate boots.

This is the disco look, you will need a pose, wide collar, tight flared trousers, medallion and lacquered hair.

It was fun to see all the different styles that we can wear. I give this book an 8/10

    Glossary:

Greasy quiff: Loads of hair cream

Drape jacket with a velvet collar: Edwardian morning jacket

This book is about a dog called Jacko and a boy called Thomas. They live in a house which is close to the mountains where there are lots of lead mines. One day Thomas’ dad is walking Jacko and Jacko falls into a lead mine. He did not realise that Jacko had fallen into a lead mine and so he assumed that Jacko had run back home. So Thomas’ dad simply returns home. But Jacko is not at home. They look for Jacko in the mountains. They do not find Jacko. Thomas looks for Jacko on his own although he is not allowed to go into the mountains by himself. Whilst looking for Jacko on his own, Thomas falls down a lead mine himself. He gets out by putting rocks on top of each other and climbing up them. The mountain rescue team rescue Jacko. Thomas is so happy to be united with Jacko again. He is like his brother.

  91. Title: Animals and us
    Author: Claire Llewellyn

This book was mainly about animals that are pretty useful. For example, a pigeon, in World War One, pigeons were used to carry secret information. Also some of them had tiny cameras to take pictures of enemy ships and troops. Many pigeons had a medal of bravery, there are memorials to those that sadly passed away. Pigeon droppings, ruining buildings, statues and benches, they carry bacteria and spread disease. Another one can be maggots? They sound disgusting but, they are actually extremely helpful. In World War Two, they were used to heal wounds. How do they do that? That is exactly what I am about to tell you. They basically clean up the wound and stitch it together.

This was a great book! I loved seeing the special things animals can do! 9.3/10
