Last term, we looked at a piece of art by a famous painter called Monet.

We looked at how he blended the colours together, used lighter colours for the background and darker colours for the London landmarks. Some of us were even able to notice and recreate the reflection in the River Thames.

Can you draw your own version of this painting? You don’t need to have any paints at home, just a pencil will do! Draw in your landmark, or something you can see from your window. Then, use the side of your pencil to shade, adding in some light and dark shades depending on how hard you press your pencil.

If you want, you could do some writing to go with your picture. What story would go with your picture? Are you describing the view, or something happening in the picture?

Send in a photo of your pictures and I’ll share them here. If you’re doing some writing, you can write it below.

Tell us how you did your art and what choices you made to create your drawing.

I can’t wait to see what you can produce!

Thanks Romey for sending in your wonderful artwork. I love how you chose colours that were the same colour as the paints Monet used. You’ve tried very hard to blend your colours together and I love the blue and purple together.
What did you use? Was it oil pastels or crayons?

  2. First I decided what landmark I would like to do and I chose the Tower of London. Next I started doing the outline of the landmark and when that was finished I started to shade the inside when that was done I started to shade the windows a bit darker than the rest of the building. After that I started doing the sea around The Tower of London then I did the grass near the sea. Then I did the sky with some lightning and the colour of the lightning is purple and yellow . I chose this landmark because we could’t go there on are trip because it was very very very rainy.

Wow Marisa, it sounds like a brilliant piece of art work. You’ve managed to make it look exactly how it must have been on the day we couldn’t visit. Do you remember how heavy the rain was that day?! We’d love to see you picture. If you can upload it to the website or email it to the office, then I can put it here for others to see. Well done!

What a wonderful drawing Albert! I love how you have carefully thought about the different parts and which ones are light and which are dark. You’ve used your pencil really carefully to show the depth of the fireplace. Brilliant work!

  5. Dear Miss Carruthers,

    Hi Nadine and Sophia
    There are two options:
    1) Email it to the school office and they will forward it to me.
    2) Follow the instructions that Miss Coleman shared in one of her news posts to upload it to the website: https://www.stvincentsprimary.org.uk/news/sharing-photos-and-files/
I can’t wait to see what you have created!

I mixed blue and purple paint together. Then when it was dry I drawn Houses of Parliament and then the shadows.

Sophie, your shading is beautiful! You’ve managed to show some shadow on the buildings which makes them look so life like. Well done!
