Coordinating Conjunctions

Coordinating conjunctions are joining words that link together two main clauses of equal weighting.

The main coordinating conjunctions are:

For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So

The acronym FANBOYS can be used to remember the conjunctions.

Combine each sentence below using a coordinating conjunction-write the new sentences in your Home Learning Book.

  1. Dillon played hide-and-seek.    Freddie played hide-and-seek.
  2. Robin Hood went in the river.  Robin Hood caught a fish.
  3. We waited for Caitlin.  She didn’t turn up.
  4. It was a sunny day. They went for a walk.
  5. It was a lovely jumper. It was too small for Edith.

Now write at least two sentences of your own using a coordinating conjunction. Write your sentences below.

    Dear Year 6,
    Well done for your great sentences using coordinating conjunctions. We miss you too but hopefully it will not be long until we see you again. I know that Miss Gorick and Mrs Healy are very proud of how much you achieved this year-and I agree.
    It is not clear when schools can open again yet I promise you that as soon as it is possible, we will open St.Vincent’s straight away and look forward to welcoming you back, whether it is for one month or just one week. So keep working hard but don’t forget to relax as well. I look forward to reading more of your comments on the Blogs.
