Good Morning Year 2!

Click here for a printable version of this blog: English Friday printable

I hope you enjoyed writing your letters yesterday. They all sounded very exciting and I can’t wait to read the whole thing today.

Don’t forget to take some time to edit your writing before you publish it. Some of you have been sending in photos of your writing. If you do, you need to make sure you are using your neatest handwriting, and try to join if you can remember how to do this. It is important to keep practising our joined up handwriting. If you are typing it on the blog, then make sure all the words are spelt correctly.

When you edit, here are some questions to think about as you re-read and make your work even better:

  • Does every sentence have a capital letter and full stop?
  • Do any questions have a question mark?
  • Have I made any sentences longer by using a conjunction? (and but or because if that when)
  • Have I used too many conjunctions in a sentence so my sentence is now too long? (If you are unsure, use the rule that you can only have one conjunction (maximum two) per sentence)
  • Have I included any adjectives to make my story more descriptive?
  • Have I used the same adjective more than once? (Try and use different and exciting adjectives!)

Don’t forget to read each other’s letters, as they are all very entertaining! You could even write a comment on the blog saying why you like it!

The Day the Crayons Quit is such a great book. Watch the video below to listen to the whole story. *This is on Youtube, so make sure you have an adult near you to pres pause at the end of the video so that it doesn’t go onto the next one*

You will spot the difference and be delighted with this awesome new me!!!Your job will be more enjoyable!!! I am going to colour lots of wonderful things neatly like purple berries, purple power rangers, purple flowers and purple iPad.
    Love from Duncan.
P.S Do not me mad with me ?.

  2. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Wonderful writing Sophia! I love how you have used adjectives to describe the things you will colour in neatly!

  3. I like the idea of a neat handwriting club Sophia. Maybe we should have one in our school!

  4. Sophia P says:

    Dear Miss Carruthers,

I send you a photo of my letter.

    Greetings from Sophia

  5. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 A brilliant letter Sophia! I love how neatly you have written and how clearly you have explained the solution to his problem!

  6. I agree with Miss Carruthers. Your handwriting is very neat Sophia.

  7. Dear Red Crayon
I fully understand that letter and I promise I will only colour things in on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays from now on (but you won’t work AT ALL on the other days or in the holidays). How does that sound? If you are happy then send me something so I know you’ve got this message… it can even just be a blank piece of paper! All that’ll start next week (it’s a Thursday today in case you didn’t know) and until then I won’t use any of you at all!
Hope all that’s cheered you up a little. Please write back to me and let me know what you think of my idea. Oui? (That’s French for yes, in case you’re wondering.)
    Duncan x

  8. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Fantastic writing Rex! I love how you solved his problem and asked a question to check he is okay with it!

  9. Well Rex your letter definitely cheered me up. I love the way you always throw a little bit of French or German into your writing. How do you know these languages? Do your brother and sister learn them at school?

  10. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Such excellent writing Jack! I love your solution of letting him sleep in a crayon box! Well done for adding a question as well.

  11. Yes Jack I agree with Miss Carruthers that is a lovely piece of writing. I found it so amusing and do you know although it’s only midday I feel I could easily take a nap in that crayon box right now – if only I could fit!

  12. Dear Red ?Crayon,
    You shouldn’t be writing me ✉️letters. You’re a ?crayon!
The letter you wrote to me was crazy. You didn’t write inside
the lines, your handwriting wasn’t neat and all because you are a
?crayon!!I am ?angry because you’re in my ?house and you
could have had a conversation with me because you live in my ?house! If you were not a ?crayon then I would give you a big, long holiday and then we would become friends again?.But no??‍♀️ because, as I said, you are a ?crayon!! The only thing I am going to do to you, to stop your complaining, is that I am going to stick another red crayon on your head so that you are longer. Now I have more red crayon to colour with!

    From
    Duncan!

  13. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Ha! A very funny letter Luisa. I love your phrase “to stop your complaining..” because it really shows how fed up Duncan is!

  14. Yes a very amusing letter Luisa. I love your idea of sticking another crayon on top of the crayon to make it longer!

  15. Dear red crayon,
I was so happy? to receive your letter but I am sad☹️ that you feel overwhelm and mad? with me.
I understand you need holidays if you are tired. I promise I will do my best to use you less when you need because I want you to be happy.
I love the colour red and I can’t mix other colours to make red. I am sure you know you are a primary colour so I can’t replace you. Do you have any idea? or suggestion ? When do you want to take your break? What about taking it during the spring half term ? I hope it is OK for you.
    Love from
    your friend Duncan

  16. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Brilliant Adrien! Well done for using lots of conjunctions and asking lots of questions.

  17. What a lovely letter Catherine. I love the way you suggest making a deal with the red crayon. I wonder what the reply will be!

  18. I love the way you asked the red crayon lots of questions in your letter Adrien.

  19. Dear purple crayon,
I try to colour inside the lines but I cannot. Sorry! But…. DO NOT SHOUT AT ME!!!!!!!!!! It is rude and makes me angry and mad. Try to be more polite. I will keep practising colouring inside the lines if you promise to stop giving out. I really want to colour inside the lines you know.
Could you please say to orange crayon that yellow crayon is the colour of the sun. I cannot tell him because I do not know where he is. I last saw him in the crayon box but I think he is hiding from me somewhere in the house now.
    from
    Duncan

    P.S. please don’t be mad.

  20. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Great writing Nadine! I like how you have used lots of conjunctions to extend your sentences and make them longer.

  21. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 An excellent letter Joshua! I love how you have use conjunctions so that you can write longer sentences. Please try and make sure that all your letters are sitting properly on the lines!

  22. Catherine says:

    Dear Red crayon,
I’ve read your letter. Thank you for the letter and expressing how you feel. It’s unfortunate you feel this way but I think you are right. I’m sorry and should give you more of a break. You are my favourite colour and it feels jolly good when I use you to colour objects.
Would you like to make a deal? In the winter, I’ll let you have a rest because you deserve it. You have worked very hard. I’ll use other colours such as pink for hearts, yellow for stars and blue for the car. What do you think of my proposal? I hope you don’t think its unfavourable. I think its splendid! I’m waiting to hear from you.

    Love,
    Duncan

    P.S. I’m waiting……….

  23. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 What wonderful writing Catherine! Well done for using some different conjunctions to extend your sentences. I love your questions.

  24. What a lovely letter Catherine. I love the way you suggest making a deal with the red crayon. I wonder what the reply will be!

  25. Dear red crayon,
I feel really sad that you’re going to leave and I’m worried. Maybe we can work something out if you don’t go to Scotland. It ‘s not my fault I can’t practise being neat because I have to help with my little baby sister. I’ll ask my dad to teach me how to be neat. How does that sound?

    From Duncan

  26. Miss Carruthers says:

? Well done Finley! I think that’s a very good reason!

  27. Dear Red Crayon,
I know you need to do lots of work but maybe tell me again and then I will see if you can have a little holiday. I do feel bad for you red crayon because all I have done is colour red things like the top bit of the rainbow, hearts and shirts. You can be friends with red Santa because then on Christmas night you can help Santa give all the presents out for all the people in the world to enjoy their toys that they have wanted. Even though you’re my favourite crayon I love it when all the crayons draw pictures of me.
    From Duncan

  28. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Well done Layla! You’ve used ‘because’ well in your sentences to explain your reasons clearly.

  29. Dear Grey Crayon,

I know that you are very tired of colouring lots of big elephants and giant rhinos, but it is fun. I want to keep colouring with you but you deserve a break. There are smaller grey things I could use you to colour, like little baby owls.
You don’t need to colour anything if you want. I’ll just use the other crayons instead because I know you are exhausted. Although the other crayons are arguing too. I’ll work it out.

    Love from,
    Mr. Duncan

  30. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Well done Rebecca. I like how you have used conjunctions well to extend your sentences.

  31. Your little sister sounds as though she is keeping you very busy Finley.

  32. Dear Blue Crayon,

I know that I use you a lot as you are my favourite colour. I’m sorry that you are very short because I colour the vast seas, rivers and oceans with you. If I were you, I would want to take a rest too.

Blue Crayon, I’m going to use other crayons to colour dark blue cups. If you stay in the humongous box of crayons then I won’t use you by mistake. So, how about you have a jumbo rest. I’ll give you that, ok?

    From,
    Duncan

  33. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Excellent writing John! Well done for describing the box of crayons.

  34. Isabella says:

    Dear White crayon,
I am deeply sorry ? that you feel empty and you think ? nobody else can see you without a black outline. I just want to let you know that you are a very important colour because without you the other colours will not be the same! Here is why: if I draw with yellow crayon on a purple paper, yellow will become a neutral shade of grey and red
will become a colour called magenta. All the colours will be upset to change their colour . So,you are important but sometimes I will use a black paper ,like now, if that makes you happy.
    Love
    from
    Duncan

  35. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 What a beautiful way of explaining to white crayon why they are so important! Well done Isabella!

  36. Dear Red Crayon
I got your letter and I am very sorry you haven’t had a break. So I decided you could have a break this summer. If you want you can just do the outline of the red things. I hope it is enough for you I could let you have a break every holiday if that would be fine with you. I hope you are not mad with me and I hope we could be best friends with me again.

P.S. I hope you forgive me for overworking you.

    From Duncan

  37. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Great work Marisa! Well done for proof reading your starting sentence and making it easier to read.

  38. Kristian says:

I wrote my letter to red crayon in rainbow colours on an iPad.

I love this book. We also have “The Day the Crayons Came Home” and “An Alphabet of Stories” by Oliver Jeffers. They are very funny.

  39. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 It looks like your letter has come straight form the book! Well done Kristian! Your green and purple fire engine looks great!

  40. Dear Yellow crayon,
I’m extremely happy ? you wrote to me but I’m really sorry that you are no longer speaking to your friend Orange crayon because both of you are fighting over which one of you is the colour of the sun ☀️ .
You MUST go back to be friends again because I need you both TOGETHER to colour in my beautiful sunset ?! Here is how I will help you! My plan is to talk to orange crayon and tell him that you are both the colour of the sun . I also need you both to colour in my autumn ? leaves, the juicy inside of my oranges and my fierce foxes fur?.
    You work so beautifully together!
I will let you know how it goes in my next letter!
    Love from
    Duncan

  41. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Wonderful writing Emilia! I love how descriptive you were in your solution, describing all the things they can colour together. Well done!

  42. Dear red crayon,
I have read your letter and I am very sorry that I overworked you and I didn’t realise that I made you so tired for drawing in the hearts for valentines day, all the apples, strawberries and all the santas for Christmas. This time I will give you breaks on holidays and I won’t overwork you anymore

  43. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Well done Gabi! Don’t forget to finish your letter with ‘Love from Duncan’.

  44. Dear red crayon,
Thank you for the letter you sent to me. I am so sorry to hear that you have been overworked and that you feel unpleasant. From now on, I will try to use you less and give you more breaks. However, I will have to use you for some special occasions like Christmas and Valentine’s Day. You are super important to me because you make my pictures vibrant which is why I like to use you a lot. I am very sorry and I will try to use you less. Thank you.
    From Duncan

  45. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Brilliant Sophie! I love the adjective ‘vibrant’! Well done!

  46. Miss Carruthers says:

🙂 Wonderful writing Marie! I’m sure red crayon would love a holiday by the seaside!

  47. Hi miss, something went wrong uploading the story. I’m sending it again.

    Dear red crayon,

I am sorry to hear that you get used so much but I have got a solution. My solution is that I wil try to use the other crayons. I think you deserve some rest. It also will help enormously if Duncan becomes a bit more neat in his colouring between the lines. And if that all works the crayons can live happily ever after.

  48. Miss Carruthers says:

    Brilliant Bo!
🙂 A great idea to solve the problem!
    T) How do you end a letter?

  49. Dear Red crayon,
How are you my dear red crayon?
I hope you are feeling fantastic. Thank you for your letter and I can see what the problem is. I understand that you been working so hard and now you are feeling very tired and exhausted, I want you to know that I’m very proud and grateful of your wonderful hard work. Now I think will be a great time for you to have a long break in summer so you can relax under the hot sun. I will no longer use you in the summer and will use other colour crayons. Do you like that idea? Let me know what you think of that idea?
I hope you take care of yourself

    Love from Duncan
    X

  50. Miss Carruthers says:

    What a brilliant letter!
🙂 Writing longer sentences with lots of conjunctions.
    T) Don’t forget your full stop after your last sentence.
