Good Morning Year 2!

Well done, you all worked very hard yesterday on your writing. I hope you remembered to edit your work after you had finished your letter. Editing and proof reading is just as important as the actual writing! We all make mistakes and we can always make our work better. You can try to edit by yourself or with a member of your family. Do you remember how we do it at school?

  • You need to sit together so you can both see the writing, you can hold the editing pen and read out your work.
  • Your partner will then check it makes sense, check spelling and give ideas to make it better.
  • You can then choose which changes you want to make.

Check back on yesterday’s blog to see some questions that you might want to think about while you are editing as well as some hints that I wrote to make your writing even better. You could even read other people’s work and see what I suggested to them to get more ideas.

Once you have edited your writing, and you are happy that it is your best work, then it is time to publish it! Either, type it up in the blog, or, write it out in your neatest handwriting (no mistakes!), take a photo of it and send it in to me using the website file uploader. I’ll then put it up here for others to see.

Make sure you read other people’s work too, it helps us all to get better to borrow ideas for each other! I can’t wait to read all your finished letters!

  1. Dear friends,
I am writing to ask if you want to play hide and seek outside in my garden. We have to stay in the garden because my granny said there is a dangerous bear in the woods. Granny is making a lemon cake. We could maybe have a slice with milk. After eating we could play tag. Meet me in my granny’s garden at 2.00pm tomorrow afternoon. I look forward to seeing you.

    Love from Masha

Wonderful letter Sophia! I love the extra details that you put in about eating some lemon cake. You kept your writing interesting by starting sentences in different ways. Well done!

  3. Dear Lulu,

I am writing to you because I want you to come over and play with me. I want to play piggy? in the middle because I love pigs! But we are not going to play in the woods because my Granny said not to or the big bad animals that bite will get us!! I will be so happy? if you can come!! It will be so fun! I am not sure if any other people will be coming so maybe we will have to play something else other than pity in the middle.

    From,
    Masha

P.S. Do you want get some ice cream? ?

  4. Miss Carruthers says:

A brilliant letter Luisa, well done! I’m glad you wrote more because it made it a very fun letter to read. I think on a sunny day like today, we would all like to get some ice cream!

  5. Dear friends,
I miss you all. I would love to play football with you because I have no one to play with. When could you come? What about 3PM or 3.30 on Saturday at my house? But we have to be careful not to break anything as my granny is scared we could smash the windows… After, we could have delicious home made lemon cupcakes and you can stay as long as you want. After, if you feel like it, we could do a sleep over and have a party. I hope you all can come.
    Love,
    Adrien

  6. Miss Carruthers says:

Excellent work Adrien! You’ve included lots of details and remembered to extend your sentences with conjunctions.

  7. Dear Sophie and Catherine,
I hope you are well! Would you like to come and play hide and seek because I am a bit lonely? My Granny has said we cannot play in the woods because there are big animals that bite. She said to play really near to her house.
My granny says to come at 12:00 ish please. My granny made ham sandwiches and a beautiful chocolate cake for dessert. If you come we will have the chocolate cake after lunch and then go playing.

    from,
    Nadine

    P.S. I can not wait!!!!!!!!!

  8. Miss Carruthers says:

Wow Nadine, I am so impressed that you have included so much detail in your letter. That chocolate cake sounds delicious!

  9. Dear uncle Mati,

I am writing to you because I would like you to come to my house and play UNO game with me and my older sisters. I would feel very excited.

When you come, we can also play some other games.
I like a blind fold game and if you don’t know how to play it, I can teach you and it is a very fantastic game.
We can play in my room and watch TV and dance to some rock and roll music.

Next, we could go to the park and play my favourite games like hide and seek, volleyball and creepy doll.
When we come back home, we can make cupcakes and put some delicious frosting on top of them. We can also write our names. I am sure my sisters will polish them off very quickly because they will love them.

    Love from Masha,

P.S. Let me know when you are coming.

  10. Miss Carruthers says:

Brilliant work Marisa! You’ve managed to follow advice from yesterday and written lots more and you’ve even edited your work to change happy to excited! I love all the detail you have included in your letter. Well done!

  11. Dear Evelyn,
I am writing to you because I want to invite you to play with me. The game I want us to play is stuck in the mud. Do you know how to play stuck in the mud? I want to play stuck in the mud because it’s fun and also helps you to exercise.
We can play stuck in the mud in the woods next to Grandma’s house but we have to be careful. Grandma warned about big bad animals that bite. After the game, we can have some chocolate cakes. Let’s meet at 12pm. I can’t wait to see you!

    Love,
    Masha

    P.S. Don’t be late!

  12. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Catherine for using some adjectives (fun, big, bad and chocolate). It really helps to make your letter more exciting to read!

  13. Dear Freinds,
I am writing this letter to you because I am bored and I want you to play with me. I have a really fun game you will love and lots of people can play together. The name of the game is Sardine. This is how the game works, one person hides and the rest find the one hiding. The first person who finds the hider gets to hide next. We can play in the woods because there are lots of places to hide. The tall trees, fuzzy bushes and big grey rocks are places that you can hide behind. Just remember Granny’s warning about the big animals that bite. I have promised her I won’t go deep in the woods because it is dangerous.

    Can you come and play?!

    From Layla

  14. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Layla for editing your work so well and taking on board all the advice from yesterday. You’ve managed to write an excellent letter with lots of detail and description.

  15. Dear friends
Would you like to come out with me to play a quick game of hide and seek? Please? Please?! PLEEEEEEEEEESSSSSEEEEEEEE?!?!?!?!? I’m REEEEEEEEELLLLLLYYYYYYY bored!!!
In the lockdown we all need to take some exercise or else we will go insane.I like to do a morning workout with Joe Wicks, but we all need fresh air, and the best place to find it is in the beautiful, giant woods where we can all get lost in our thoughts. Let’s meet there at 2.30pm, that’s the time in 10 minutes). But in the words of my granny:
“Don’t go too far into the woods, will you? There are big bad animals that bite…
”Errr…wise words? But we will all be safe if we stay close together and don’t go too far where the trees are huge and the big animals hide out there.
I am so excited to see you all!
    Love from Masha

  16. Miss Carruthers says:

Brilliant work Rex – you really listened carefully to the advice from yesterday and have developed your sentences to include adjectives and conjunctions. It is a very interesting read – great editing! Well done!

  17. Dear Miss C,

How are you? What are you doing today? I’m good and yesterday we went to the secret garden, to play on the swings. Granny said we could not stand in front of the swings because we might get hurt.
There were lots of pretty flowers in the garden and lots of old trees. Would you like to visit the secret garden one day?
Soon, I will be having my lunch, which will be a cheese sandwich, crisps and yummy cucumber.
    Hope to see you soon.

    From Jack

P.S. I am going to draw a picture of Lily to make her a superhero cat!

  18. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Jack for editing your work from yesterday to make it even better today! I love how you have described the garden.

  19. Dear Adrien and friends,
Would you all like to come to my house to go out and play? I’d like to see you all again.

But don’t go deep into the woods! There’s a big animal that bites so stay on the path. We could play “it” if you want to. If you like we could watch a movie instead like Infinity War or Endgame. They’re awesome.

    From,
    Masha

P.S. You could bring some sweets if you like and we could devour my chocolate buns.

  20. Miss Carruthers says:

Excellent work Finley. You have included more sentences to make your letter more interesting to read, and included a PS. Well done.

  21. Miss Carruthers says:

An excellent letter Isabella! I love your description of the knobbly, tall trees! I’m pleased to see that you are still trying to do joined up handwriting.

  22. Miss Carruthers says:

Great work Emilia! What an interesting letter with lots of adjectives in there to describe everything you talk about. I definitely think you shouldn’t open the mysterious treasure chest!

  23. Miss Carruthers says:

Brilliant work Kristian! I can see you have listened carefully to more advice yesterday and written long sentences with conjunctions. I love your decorations around your writing! Well done!

  24. Dear friends,

Please come and play hide-and-seek because I think we will have fun. I haven’t played with anyone in a long time, so I’m really bored.
We won’t go out deep in the woods because there are big bad animals that bite. I think my Granny is worried about that and I don’t want to get lost either!

    From,
    John

    P.S. Remember, I’m really bored!!!!

  25. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done John! A great letter and I am impressed that you have used both ‘because’ and ‘so’ in your sentences.

  26. Dear friends,

Can you come and play with me because I want to play a game? We can play catch and it will be fun. Granny’s house is so nice with a big yard and beautiful pink and red roses. We will not go in the woods because granny said there are big bad animals that can bite us. We would get lost.

    From,
    Rebecca

P.S. Don’t go in the woods!

  27. Miss Carruthers says:

Brilliant Rebecca! Well done for starting with a question and using lots of adjectives.

  28. Miss Carruthers says:

Excellent writing Marie. Well done for remembering to join your letters and using because to add more detail in your sentences.

  29. Miss Carruthers says:

A great letter Sophie. I love that you have chosen to start your sentences with different words to keep it interesting.

  30. Hello I sent over my writing today .
    Thanks

  31. Miss Carruthers says:

Hi Sophia, I’m not sure it worked. Would you mind sending it over again please?
