Good morning Class 4!

Today we are doing a writing task using everything we have learnt so far this week in English.

This is a long blog to read and I am sorry for all of the information but please read it very carefully so that you are clear on what you need to do.

This week, we looked at imperative verbs.

Imperative verbs are verbs which tell someone what to do. They are sometimes called ‘bossy verbs’.

For example:

Throw the potion into the sea.

Toss the wood into the pan.

Sprinkle the light bulb into the potion.

We also looked at a potion to create a tempest which had organisational devices such as subheadings and bullet points.

Your Task:

The Primary Shakespeare Company would like you to write your own spell for Prospero, just like the one we looked at earlier this week.

You need to think carefully about what to include…

  • You need to think about what your potion does.
  • Give your spell a catchy title.
  • Next, write a few sentences explaining and describing your spell. What does it do? What effects does it have? Why might it be needed?
  • You must include subheadings (for example, ‘Ingredients’ and ‘Method’).
  • Think about some ingredients from different Shakespeare plays (for example, cobweb, sea holly or dragon scale).
  • For your method, you need to use imperative verbs to explain how to create your spell (try to use a variety of imperative verbs, not the same one for each bullet point).
  • You need to use bullet points correctly for your ingredients and method sections.

You can write your spell on paper. This blog is for you to share some of your ideas, a bit like in class when I use the iPad to show snippets of people’s work on the board and we all give ideas of how they can make it even better. You might have a few sentences that you want to share. If you type them on the blog, we can all give feedback to each other, that means say something you think that person has done well and a tip of what they can do to make it even better. Or you might ask the class for some help, such as some ideas for imperative verbs.

Remember, this is a writing task so you do not need to send me the finished piece today, but please try to send me some of your sentences so that you can have some feedback. Then you can go back and make improvements before sending me or typing up your final piece on tomorrow’s blog.

Think carefully about spelling, punctuation and using exciting words!

I look forward to hearing your ideas and reading some of your first sentences on the blog today!

Need some help?

Look at this writing a spell Template from the Primary Shakespeare Company.

Good luck and have fun!

From Miss Lee.

  1. Hi miss Lee!
Can I write on my yellow book?

  2. Hi Stella!
Yes, you can write it in your yellow book but please can you type some on your work on this blog also so that you can get some feedback from myself and some of your classmates. Then you can go back and edit your work to make it even better ready to publish tomorrow!

  3. THE REVIVAL POTION

The revival potion is where the person who makes the potion chooses a person who can be brang back to life. This potion can be used on people who are still alive because you give them an extra life.

    INGREDIENTS
What you would need to make the revival potion is
    *A magician’s sugar
    * Wood from the amazon rainforest (Quantity 55)
    *Ash from a burnt tree
    *lava from a fresh volcano
*Dead coral from the Atlantic Ocean (Quantity 4)
*a llamas tear from the Sahara desert (fresh)

    METHOD
Put lava under the pot to give it fuel.add magician’s sugar and 20 wood (from Amazon rainforest)then put dead coral and ash into a blender wait for a minute.Go back to the pot and keep it stirring until you hear a sizzle. Go back to the blender and get ready with your glass potion pot because you do not won’t to lose any ash. Now finally put the llamas tear into the pot and that will cool the pot down then pour it into the potion pot. When you have drunk it you will have to say there full name to give it a revival or extra life.

    PS. Only for Prospero!

  4. Some very creative ingredients!
Can you add some descriptive adjectives to your ingredients list?
For example ‘A glistening llama’s tear from the Sahara Desert’.

For your method, I love the use of the word ‘sizzle’. It really helps me imagine what the spell sounds like as you are making it.
Can you use bullet points for your method? Try to start each bullet point with a different imperative verb.
    For example:
    – Put boiling lava under the pot to give it fuel.
    – Sprinkle in magician’s sugar.
    – Throw in twenty pieces of wood from the Amazon Rainforest.

  5. The Lock Down Potion.

The Lock down Potion, freezes the object immediately and, turns the object into plastic.

The effect of my Potion is too turn anyone into plastic thus making them unable to run away.

    Ingredients

    ° Empty Crisp Packet
    ° Very Large Glass Lid
° 5 Red and two drops of Green, and a whole bottle of Blue Food Colouring
° Spoon made from a Dragons Tongue
    ° Sodium Alginate
    ° One Syringe
° Container made from magician’s Teeth.

    Method

°Put in the Red, Blue and Green food colouring into the container made from magician’s teeth.

°Add the Soldium Alignate, stir it very slowly anti clockwise with the Dragon’s Tongue Spoon.

°Using the syringe, put the liquid mixture into the large glass lid. Being careful not to spill a drop.

°Leave the Potion for 24 hours to mature, then it’s ready.

  6. An interesting idea Ciana!
Can you add more detail to the first part. Why might you need to stop someone running away?

I like the different ingredients you have thought of. Some of it sounds like equipment you would use rather than things going into your spell. Perhaps you could create another subheading for this so that you will have ‘Ingredients’, ‘Equipment’ and then ‘Method’. Then you can add some more imaginative ingredients.

I like your method, particularly the ‘stir anti-clockwise’ instruction. It makes it sound like it is a dangerous spell to make so it must be made carefully with specific instructions.
Can you think of some more exciting imperative verbs such as ‘sprinkle’ or ‘drizzle’ to start your bullet points with?

  7. The time freezing potion
The time freezing potion has the ability to freeze time itself!
    Ingredients:
A teaspoon of ice-cold water from the deepest part of the ocean
    A scale from a sea-serpent
    A winter cry onion
    An eagle berry
    3 yeti hairs
    5 drops of pixie juice
    Ashes from a phoenix nest
A feather from a winged horse
And of course a shard of freezing cold ice from the North Pole!

    Method:
Chop the cry onion into tiny bits.
Grind the scale with a pestle and mortar until it’s dust.
Mix the ice-cold water, the ground scale, cry onion and hairs together.
    Stir clockwise for 3 minutes.
Drizzle the pixie juice over it.
Sprinkle the ashes and the juice of the berry onto the mixture.
Dip the feather and the shard into the solution for half a minute.
    Freeze for a week.

  8. What creative ingredients! Can you make them sound even more special by adding a descriptive adjective?
For example, ‘A delicate feather from a winged horse’.

You have used some great imperative verbs for your method. They are varied too which is wonderful!
Maybe you could explain what each step of your method is for to add even more detail?
For example, ‘Stir anti-clockwise to begin freezing time’ or ‘Dip in the glistening shard of ice to stop all of the clocks around the world’.

  9. THE SPELL THAT MAKES YOU DISAPPEAR!
An invisibility potion must be done quickly and sensibly in case of an emergency. It will stop other people from seeing you ✋. We might need my spell because if you’re very cheeky you might want to run away from somebody telling you off. ?

    6. Let it rest for half an hour.
    7. Add one table spoon of vampire dust?.
    8. Mix all the ingredients together and it is ready to use!

  10. I love the explanation at the beginning, great work! It makes your invisibility spell sound secretive and magical!
Can you add some exciting adjectives to describe your ingredients?
For example ‘Five shiny, spherical fish eggs.’

  11. THE SPIRIT

    WHAT YOU NEED.
    #a zombies eyeball
    #a gremlins tail
    #4 candycorns
    #a dragons scale

    Throw in the zombies eyeball
    Toss in the gremlins tail
Put the candycorns in but eat one.

If you see a face come up on the pumpkin, and it starts talking to you, then you have summoned the spirit.

    you better run!!!??‍♀️??‍♂️

  12. Some good ideas!
Well done for using subheadings and bullet points.
Can you think about adding some exciting adjectives to your ingredients list?
Also, think about how this spell might be used by Prospero. Add a few sentences at the beginning to explain it and describe what it would be used for.

  13. ?amarissa? says:

    (Only works once)(please think responsibly)

  14. Some interesting ideas well done! I like the ‘piece of rock from the Grand Canyon’ as this makes your spell sound hard to make and therefore important!
Can you use some varied imperative verbs for your method. Start your sentences with these rather than starting with ‘then’.
For example, ‘Pour in 300ml of salty sea water.’

  15. I will try my hardest, miss.
