**Today’s Maths:**

**Workbook: 2B **

**Chapter 13: Fractions **

**Lessons 13, 14 & 15: Finding Part of a Set **

**Links: Lesson 13, Lesson 14, Lesson 15**

*Click here for a printable version of this blog post:Maths Friday printable*

**Today we’re going to be using fractions to find part of a set. If we want to find what ¼ of something is, then we’ll have to put it into 4 groups (because that’s the bottom number) and then see how many are in 1 of the groups (because that’s the top number). You may realise that this is very similar to the division we did last week…**

**Have a go at this Activity Time. Can you find numbers that you have work out half of? Remember, they have to be EQUAL halves, or else it doesn’t work for that number:**

**Now see if you can find ¼ or a 1/3 of an amount.**

**Work through the worksheets, using the pictures to help you. On the second page of each worksheet, there aren’t any pictures, but I would definitely recommend drawing some out to help you work out the answer.**

***If you are finding it tricky, then have a go using pictures or objects to help you work through the questions, just like you did in the Activity Time.**

***If you managed to work through it, have a go at this extension activity.****Extension Activity for children**** **

**Parents can click on this link for the instructions which include how to help your child start, some possible answers and a further extension: Extension Guide for Parents**

***Don’t forget the Fun Friday BBC Bitesize Maths Challenges! Click here to have a go.**

**There won’t be any Year 2 blogs next week because it is half term. If you are looking for more fun activities to do, then check out the Whole School Blogs for lots of exciting things to do! Have a happy half term 🙂 **

Hello Miss Carruthers,

I finished my work and I am going to do my extension work.

Well done Maris!

Dear Miss,

I finished my maths. I did the extension work. Part d was hard but the rest were fine. The BBC challenges were ok but challenge 2 was hard. It had lots of parts.

Bye bye. Have a nice weekend.

We finished the worksheets and have nearly finished the extension work. Maths was challenging for us today and has taken quite a long time but we will keep practising.

Well done for persevering. It’s quite a tricky concept, but try using pictures or objects to help 🙂

Good afternoon Miss Carruthers!

We did all our maths homework and the extension work too.

We needed bit of help with the extension work and we will keep practicing!

Well done! The extension is meant to be challenging 🙂

Dear Miss Carruthers,

I finished all my work and it was ok.

Well done Marie! I’m glad you found it okay!

I’ve completed my maths worksheets and the extension and it was OK. I found matching some of the fractions without any pictures tricky but also used my times table which helped. I will keep practicing.

Wonderful Catherine. I’m impressed you noticed that your times tables help you with fractions. They really do help us with so many things and that is why they are so important to learn 🙂

All done Miss.
