To solve this problem you can use the decomposition method and the column method. Then try to find how many millimetres of milk are in 24 bottles. You should use your first calculation to help you find the answer.

COLUMN METHOD:
If we are dividing by 24 and there is a remainder of 18, how can the remainder be represented using a fraction? What is 18⁄24 in £? The remainder must be reduced to the simplest form 3⁄4. What is 3⁄4 of £1?
3⁄4 of £1 is 75 pence.
How would you solve 1146 ÷ 24 using this method? Have a look at the below demonstration of this long division method. What should we do with the remainder 18? When reduced to the simplest form 18⁄24 is 3⁄4. What is 3⁄4 as a decimal?
Have a look at how we divide 1146 using factors of 24. Even when the number is small, long division can be used to calculate the answer.
