Today’s Maths

Workbook:  2B

Chapter: 11 Two-Dimensional Shapes

Lesson:  1, 2 & 3, Identifying sides, vertices and lines of symmetry.

Links: Lesson 1 Lesson 2 Lesson 3

During our time at school, we did lots of 2D shapes. Remember that these shapes are flat shapes. We learnt key vocabulary that is used to describe them: sides, vertices and symmetry.

Sides: the edge of a shape

Vertices: (one vertex, many vertices) A corner – The point at which two or more edges of a shape meet.

Symmetry: A shape is symmetrical if it is identical on either side of a line dividing it into two parts.

Work through these three worksheets to remind yourselves of the properties of 2D shapes and how to identify them. Don’t forget to check the answers and mark them with your grown ups.

*If you have found this tricky, then have a look at this BBC Bitesize page that has videos and a quiz to help you!

*If you have completed your work, you may like to explore this lesson, taught by Oak Academy, that goes over how identify 2D shapes and has a fun quiz at the end.

  1. Morning Miss Carruthers

I did the MnP Chapter 11 up to worksheet 4! I really enjoyed it. I got to wrong but it’s ok because I got everything else correct. I drew some of the geometric shapes on my graph paper.

Yes but it is good to practise it again. Try to do the questions again and write them in your Home Learning Book. If you want more practise, try Oak Academy lesson.
