Good Morning Year 2!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some of the sunshine! I’m sure lots of you remembered to keep reading and will have lots to share on our  Reading Diary Blog!

We’re going to have another look at Clever Cakes by Michael Rosen. We’ll be reading the same extract as last week. If you have a smart phone or tablet in your house, then ask your parents to help you read the QR code below to see the first half of the book. I have also saved pictures of the pages in the gallery below or you can click on this link for a printable version: printable clever cakes extract.

Read through the extract. Today we will be focussing on the second half of the extract, starting from page 6. See if you can answer these questions.

Once you have answered these ones, have a go at some of these challenge questions:

  1. How do you think Masha would have felt when her friends never came, and why?
  2. Why has Michael Rosen spelt help as ‘he-e-e-lp’? What is he trying to get the reader to think?
  3. Michael Rosen describes the bear’s paws as ‘massive muscly’. Can you think of other pairs of adjectives that could be used that both start with the same letter? Mine is ‘huge hairy paws’.

Our writing task for the week is going to be writing our own ending of the story, so I don’t want to give you Michael Rosen’s ending just yet. I’ll share the whole story on Friday for you to enjoy.

If it is easier for you to print the blog post, then click here for a printable version: English Blog Monday printable

I can’t wait to read all your answers in the blog below.
