Workbook: 5A
Chapter: 1 Numbers to 1000 000
Lesson: 1 and 2 Reading and Writing Numbers to 1 000 000

Good morning, Year 5,

Thanks for attempting the work yesterday. Position and Movement is not something we have covered in class so from now on, just like the other classes, we will just be revisiting lessons we have already done so that you can consolidate your learning. This means they may be worksheets you have already completed but that’s okay, you can try them again in your yellow home learning book.

Today, you will be revisiting how to read and write numbers to 1, 000, 000 (one million).

Please watch this video to revisit place value: BBC Bitesize: What is place value?

Here is a demonstration of how to complete your MNP questions:

As you can see, there are two 10,000 discs which equal twenty thousand (20,000).

Then there are three 1000 discs which equal three thousand (3000).

There are six 100 discs which equal six hundred (600)

There are four 10 discs which equal forty (40).

Finally, there are nine 1 discus which equal nine (9).

You then need to add the ones in pink together to work out the number before writing it in digits and words.

So, 20,000 + 3,000= 23,000

600 + 40 + 9 = 649

The total is: 23,649 and in words this will be ‘tweny-three thousand six hundred and forty-nine’.

Extension: Reading and Writing Numbers extension

Good luck!

Mrs Avdiu & Ms Robertson

Hi Sara. Please read the blog carefully as it says that the pages may have been completed already in school but this does not matter as we must revisit concepts studied. You can try the questions again in your yellow book by looking at them online or covering the answers? How was the Mind workout? Did you try the suggested activity on the blog page?
