Today we are going to be counting in fractions. Remember that fractions are parts that add up together to make a whole.

So we can add the whole pieces first, to get our whole number. Then, we add our part pieces to see how many more we have. Go through the Let’s Learn and Guided Practise of each chapter to see if you can have a go.

When we did this in class, the number line questions were very confusing. Have another go doing them as I think you’ll be able to do them more confidently now. Just remember, it is like a normal number line with the whole numbers, and then the fractions go in between because they make up part of the whole number.

Watch this video that helps to explain counting in halves on a number line:

*If you’re not too sure what to do, go back and do worksheet 9 in this chapter, which explains it again and gives you more activities to practise.

*If you are feeling confident, click here to go onto White Rose Maths. Open the Summer Term Week 1 and then Lesson 2 Count in Fractions for another lesson on counting in fractions, or just click here for the worksheet.
