Well done for solving your multiplication problems yesterday. Today we are going to be looking at some division problems.

Do you remember the two ways to solve division problems? It is either by grouping or sharing. Have a look at this lesson we did a few weeks ago and read through the examples to remind yourselves of the different ways to solve the problems.

As you can see in this example, the important thing to remember is that they are equal pieces (the same length).

Before you do the worksheet, you can consolidate your sharing and grouping understanding by doing these two BBC Bitsize lessons. There is one for sharing and one for grouping.

Once you have done the BBC Bitesize lessons and the Maths No Problem worksheet, here is another word problem you can do – use the pictures to help you!

If you want another challenge, then try this NRICH problem. Can you work out how many flowers there will be? You might want to draw it out to help when you’re working in out. Can you make up your own problem for your friends to try and solve?

Let me know how you get on with all the activities today!

  1. Hi Miss

I did all the maths today including the NRICH problem. I think the answer is 64 flowers.

Yesterday’s NRICH problem was quite difficult but we think the answer was 61 Garlic Cloves.

I knew you’d like to solve these problems 🙂
Well done for having a go. Yesterday’s answers was 61 garlic cloves. I’ll wait a little bit to give others some time to solve the flower problem before I tell you if you’re right or not!
Did you try to write your own problem?

  3. Dear miss Carruthers,
I have completed the worksheets and it was quite easy.

  4. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Sophie 🙂 Did you try the BBC Bitesize lessons as well?

  5. I’ve done the workbook, and also, eventually, the very difficult mind workout about the length of the crocodile (well my sister did it really…). The answer is 84cm.
I’ve also done the two problems. The answers are 6 lollipops and 64 flowers.

  6. Miss Carruthers says:

I’m glad your sister could help you Rex! Sometimes those Mind Workouts are really tricky to know where to start!

  7. I did lesson 3 on BBC Bitesize

  11. I did all my maths.

I did all my maths. The flower one was mostly easy. I think the answer is 64 flowers.
I tried to do the mind workout with the crocodile but it was quite tricky. I will work on it later on after english.

I made up a maths problem.
    Stacey picked up 12 leaves.
Each week she picks up 5 more leaves than the week before.
How many leaves does she have after 4 weeks?

  14. Miss Carruthers says:

    Well done Nadine!
I’ve taken away your answer for your own Maths problem, so that if others want to solve it, you can mark it after!

  15. Hi Miss we did all the exercises today, bbc and ncirh. 64 is the answer because it doubles.

  16. Miss Carruthers says:

You’ve been busy! Well done Finley 🙂

  18. Miss Carruthers says:

Drawing it out is often the best way to solve these types of problems, because then you can picture what is happening. Well done!

Hi Miss, we completed the worksheets, BBC lessons and challenge questions. We used cubes to see the pattern up to week 4 and then followed the pattern to calculate the total week 6 branches / flowers.

  32. Miss Carruthers says:

What a great idea! You used the cubes very cleverly to help you understand at first, and then you knew what to do for the final two weeks. Excellent problem solving skills ⭐
