  1. Hello

My answers are 2 sweets, 4 apples, 3 ants and 10 potatoes. Mummy struggled with explaining ‘half’ and ‘double’ ?‍♀️

  2. Miss Savage says:

Mikey, doubling is just adding a number to itself. Did you click the link to read through the power point that has the story to help explain doubling? If you put three coins on the table and then put a mirror next to it, you will see the reflection of the three coins. If you count them, there will be six coins all together. You have doubled the number of coins, so 3 + 3 = 6 or we can say 3 x 2 = 6

Halving is what we worked on all last week, it means sharing between two. Everyone has to have the same so that it is fair. Sometimes we might be able to work out the answer in our head, or by using objects or a picture.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

  3. That’s a huge help. Thank you so much! (I was struggling to download the slides but trying on a different device).

  8. She got the idea of doubling from the PowerPoint. When we got to half then it was tricky, but we got there. Using blocks to add and subtract we manage to get all the answers right.

Halving is what we worked on in class last week Philippa. Halving is just sharing between two. You have to share to make it fair. Do what I did when I showed you on the carpet, do one for me, one for you until they are all gone and then check to make sure we both have the same number. Always remember, when you share it has to be fair!!

  10. She got doubling from the PowerPoint, we had a little bit of a harder time with half. We used blocks to add and subtract.

  11. We got the same answers as Mikey. To help Luca with dividing, we used the example “If there were 2/4/6/8/10/20/100 people at Siena’s Christening and half the people had to get in one taxi and the other half get in the other taxi to get to the party, how many in each.

  12. Miss Savage says:

Haha! That’s a great real life example Luca. Keep up the hard work! Please comment on our reading blog with any good books you have read this week.
