Good morning Year 5,

I miss all of your lovely singing at school, especially during masses and religious celebrations.

Today I would like to celebrate and remember the hymns and songs we sing at school.

Here are some of the hymn sheets we used this year to remind you of some of the songs:

Candlemas-Hymn-sheet-2020

EPIPHANY-MASS-songs-2020 (1)

More ideas can be found here: May is also the month of Music

There may be another song or hymn that you love and that reminds you of our school.

My favourite hymn is ‘I Belong’ because it reminds me that no matter where I am in the world, I will always belong to God’s family and God’s family is everywhere. It also reminds me of how lucky I am to be part of the St Vincent’s family!

Please tell us in the comments:

Which ones are your favourites and why?Β

Could you write an extra verse to your favourite song using the tune?

Good luck!

Mrs Avdiu & Ms Robertson

As it is Thursday, Miss Coleman and Miss Carruthers will kindly respond to the blogs today. Thank you both πŸ™‚

Hello Mathilde, that’s a great song choice!
Could you write another verse ?

  3. Good morning everyone, I hope that you are all well and safe. Here are my answers for the questions:

My favourite song is The Lord of the Dance as it is very bouncy and I love the ( I think it is ) third verse. It is really fun and it always cheers me up when I am feeling down. I also really like the song We Three Kings because it is quite a powerful song. I did try to write a verse but I found it very hard and it didn’t sound very good. I might try again later.

I hope you enjoy your day! Bye! ?

  4. Miss Carruthers says:

I love the Lord of the Dance as well – I like how loudly we all sing the chorus!

  5. Hello everyone! I hope that you have had a great week so far! I did today’s Music task with Maia and Elena using Skype..

    These are our answers:

    My favourite song is:

    – The light of the world from The Candlemas Sheet 2020
This is because I enjoy the catchy chorus. I also enjoy the structure of this song. I also like the melodies in the song as that is also catchy.

    *****************************************************************

THIS IS THE CHORUS THAT WE MADE!

The tune is to Right here Right now by The Next Step
Start when the music begins at the very beginning.

Wait 14 seconds until the woman’s voice comes.

β€˜You always told us to read the scriptures, you always told us to pray to the Lord.
Now I know why it’s so important, we all need to pray to the Lord,
Well if we rise from the bottom, we can eventually reach he top.
Well if we rise from the bottom, we can eventually reach the top.’

We hope that you enjoyed our chorus!

What great idea to work on this task together. This is a wonderful collaboration. maybe when we are back at school we can try singing this . Well done !

  8. Good morning everyone. I hope your enjoying your morning so far. I did today’s music task with Nika and Elena on skype.

    Here are our answer.

    My favourite song is…
The light of the world from the candle mass 2020.
I like the tune and the melody in it. I also like the catchy beat. The structure of the song is very clean, and the words fit in with the melody.

This is the chorus we made:
We used the music from the next step but we made our own lyrics.

  9. Hello everyone I hope you are all well and are having a good time. I have to admit that I am missing singing our St. Vincent songs but also the Maya song we were going to do. It was hard to choose a song but I chose this:

    We Three Kings
This is my new verse and than the chores:

When we go to give him the gifts,
We shall pray, our new born king,
Lord has sent him down for a reason,
And that is wise to say.

O star of wonder star of night,
    star with royal beauty bright,
    Westward leading still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect light,

I hope you liked my new verse it was hard at the beginning but I got the hang of it at the end.

  10. Miss Carruthers says:

I miss all the singing too! It always made me so happy!

I love your new verse for We Three Kings! Well done for getting the hang of it and sticking to the rhythm. You’ll have to keep it ready for Christmas so we can all sing it then!

  11. Good morning Miss Coleman and Miss Carruthers. My favourite songs are Easter Jubilation, A sad dark day and He’s Alive.

I like Easter Jubilation because it has a beat that gets faster and faster and it’s also really fun to sing. He’s Alive reminds me of nursery because I remember learning it with Miss Siswick. Finally, I really enjoy listening to the tune of A sad dark day.

Here is an extra verse of Easter Jubilation that I wrote.

    Do not fret at all
    because the Lord has come.
Jesus Christ is here right now.
    He is in your hearts,
    yes he is, oh yeah.
And before him you shall bow.

  12. Miss Carruthers says:

I find Easter Jubilation fun to sing as well, especially when you all bob up and down! I love your new verse – we’ll have to show it to Miss Siswick so she can add it to the words!

  13. Hi everyone, my favourite song in the Epiphany sheet is Lamb of God because it reminds me of Jesus and that I belong to God’s family. In the Candle mass sheet my favourite song is My little light of mine, because it reminds me of Jesus as he represents light and it is a fun song to sing.

  14. Miss Carruthers says:

Brilliant Dylan! I like This Little Light of Mine as well!

  15. .+*Kayla*+. says:

Hello everyone! My favourite song is Easter Jubilation as it is very enjoyable and catchy! πŸ˜€ It also tells us to keep our head up high and that a better time will come, in the verse: “Put aside your sorrows wipe those tears away, for a better time will come” I also find the song fun as it gets faster!! πŸ™‚ πŸ˜€

I hope you all have a nice day! Stay safe! πŸ™‚

    Kayla πŸ˜‰

  16. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done for reminding us of the important message in the songs.

  17. Hi everyone.
My favourite hymn is Easter Jubilation because it reminds me to be happy even if we don’t get what we want also it reminds me that being kind isn’t just for one day it’s for everyday of a year. Also that teaches me to be more like Jesus and God, and to think before your actions.

  18. Miss Carruthers says:

Songs can be so powerful to teach us things! What a reflective answer.

  19. Hi everyone,
My favourite song is love shone down. I really like this song because it is a song that reminds me of St.Vincent’s.
    Here is my own verse:
I had a dream that I was down in Bethlehem,
And then I heard a baby crying he was born,
    The lights shone down,
    The world was happy,
The Lord was born and he was almighty,
Oh and love shone down over the boy,
    Oh and love shone down
    SEE YOU SOON!

  20. Miss Carruthers says:

I love this song as well! I remember singing it on the stage at the Marylebone Christmas Lights. I love your new verse – well done!

  23. Hi everyone my favourite song is β€˜This Little light of mine’ because it’s very catchy and I like the rhythm it has. It also tells me that when things go down just keep on shining!
    β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
    This little light of mine,
    It’s gonna brightly shine,
    It shines from the left,
    And shines from the right,
It shines all around like a flying kite
It shines from above and right to the ground,
So shine my little light I’ve found.

  24. Miss Carruthers says:

I love your description of the light flying around like a kite!

  25. Hello year 5,
I hope you’re all safe and well. I enjoyed reading about your favourite songs and your song words. Some of my favourite songs that we do at St Vincent’s are ‘Ooh luh la leh’, ‘this little light of mine’ and the ‘wiz-wiz-wiz wizard’ song from the reception class assembly.

  26. Hello everyone, I chose to write a verse for Easter Jubilation because I love the beat and it always makes me feel very happy

I can hear the people singing in the town,
They are having lots of fun,
We will listen to the songs they play, for Jesus Christ our Lord has come.

  27. Miss Carruthers says:

Amazing Erin! I can really sing along to the tune with those words – they fit so well!

  28. Hello everyone!
My favourite song is “This Little Light of Mine” because it is bouncy and I like the lyrics. It also reminds me to keep on shining especially through these hard times.
I hope you all have a great day.

  29. Miss Coleman says:

    Hi Tommaso,
I love your positivity -and I agree that this song helps to remind us to keep on shining during these difficult times.
