Good Morning, Nursery.

Yesterday, we were adding two amounts together.

Today’s task: We are going to be investigating different ways to make 5.You need 2 plates and 5 items of food. They can be 5 different foods or 5 of the same.

Share the 5 items of food onto the 2 plates. Count how many you have on each plate and then count them all together. Then, try sharing them a different way to see if you can make different numbers on each plate.

I chose 5 different fruits and vegetables and I had two turns.

You can do this as many times as you like to find lots of different ways to make 5.  You can record the numbers in any way that you choose.

I am looking forward to hearing all about it.

Love from Miss Siswick.

  1. Good morning Miss Siswick,

With help Nicolas divided the fruit/vegetables correctly between two plates (4+1; 2+3; 5+0). Photo to follow.

    Greetings from Nicolas

  2. Joseph & Sophia says:

    Good morning Miss Siswick

We used 5 apples today to make the number 5.
We exchanged apples between us and counted how many apples each one has on their plate and then added the total of all apples which was always 5.

    Miss you
    Joseph & Sophia

  3. Good morning,

Adelaide put first 2 fruits/vegs on 1 plate and 3 on the another one. Then 3 and 2. And then 1 fruit vs. 4. Each time I made her count them altogether…and it was always 5! It’s magic.

  4. Good morning, Grace took two plates and chose a carrot, yoghurt, apple, orange and an onion. At first she put all the items on one plate. She understood 0+5=5. Then I asked her to change the groups so she did 2+3 and the 1 +4.

  5. Morning. James loved doing this exercise and got all right.
1 on the green plate and 4 on the blue plate = 5
2 on the green plate and 3 on the blue plate and on we continued until all number combinations had been completed. We then reversed the colours too.
    Sending photos now.
