Good Morning, Nursery.

Well done with your fantastic sock sorting and counting yesterday.

As we had so much fun with it, I thought we could try it again but with shoes today!

Your child will need at least* 5 pairs of shoes but please don’t tell them how many there are!  (*If they found it quite easy yesterday, then try this with up to 10 pairs of shoes.)

Today’s task: Jumble up all of the shoes.

Can you guess how many shoes there are altogether?

Can you find the number card for your guess?

Can you count all of the shoes?

Can you find the number card for the total?

Was it the same number?

Can you sort the shoes into pairs?

Can you find the number card ?

Can you sort the shoes out into two groups? It could be all the black shoes and all of the other shoes, for example.

Use your number cards to record how many shoes are in each group.

How many ways can you find to sort the shoes out into two different groups?

When you have finished, put all your shoes back into pairs.

Can you put them back where they belong?

I am looking forward to hearing all about your Maths today.

Love from Miss Siswick.

PRINTABLE VERSION:N Maths Wednesday

It would really help me if you could upload photos  straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.

Good morning nursery, enjoy your maths.

  2. Adelaide says:

Good morning, I asked Adelaide if there were more than 1 shoe, then 2, etc. She stopped me at 9. She then counted the shoes and put the number ten next to them. I made her count the pairs of shoes, she got it right. I asked her to count all the black shoes (and then the pairs) and the boots. She counted it all well though I had to remind her what a pair of shoes is several times.

  3. Grace gave guessed 10 shoes when in fact there were 10 pairs of shoes but she did count all 20 shoes. She found the number cards for 10 and 20. She made two groups but needed help to suggest how so we made groups of her shoes and Eddie’s and for mummy and daddy’s shoes. There were more in mum and dad’s group – 12 and 8 in the other. She then helped put them away 🙂

  4. Good morning,

Caspian enjoyed the challenge again today. I chose 6 pairs of shoes as a task and he did very good job in counting, separating, calculating and placing back in the shoes cabinet .

Caspian practiced writing number six and number twelve which is the correct number of the shoes .

  5. Esmeralda says:

    Good morning!

Esmeralda counted shoes and pairs. She found the cards number for all and every shoe or pair.

She sorted out pairs into 2 groups. One made up of boots and another of “high shoes”.

    Greetings

  6. Dear Miss Siswick,

Nicolas guessed that we had 10 shoes and found the correct number card. He put all the shoes in a line and counted them correctly to 16 (needed help with 15). Found number card 16, first mixed it up with 12. He agreed that 16 is higher than 10 [“but 10 is big according to Nicolas and 1000 is even bigger”]. He put the shoes in pairs and counted them correctly to 8 pairs and found number card. He divided the shoes correctly into a group of high heels, flat shoes and trainers. High heels: 10 (found correct number card), flat shoes: 2 (found correct number card), 4 white trainers (found correct number card).

    Greetings from Nicolas

  7. Miss Siswick says:

Well done; Adelaide, Grace, Caspian and Nicolas. Fantastic shoe counting and sorting this morning.

  8. Mrs Knowler says:

What a great activity! I’ll check in later to see how you have done.

  9. Alexander says:

Alexander enjoyed the counting and sorting activity.
I brought out 10 pairs of shoes and he counted the legs correctly to 20. I reduced it to 5 pairs and he counted the legs correctly to 10. He was able to match the number cards correctly to the amount shoes left in pairs and legs. He sorted the shoes into 2 groups of black and other colours.

  10. Miss Siswick says:

    Great sorting and counting, Alexander.

  11. Hello nursery,

Fiadh guessed there were 12 shoes and then counted 14 shoes correctly. She put them in to pairs and counted 7 pairs, then split them in to 2 groups of boots and shoes. She found the correct number cards for each part of the activity apart from 12 and 14 which she was a bit confused about. She recognises the numbers from 1-10.

  12. Miss Siswick says:

    Well done, Fiadh.

Could you try sending your photo again as it won’t open. Thank you and sorry!

  13. Ania counted the shoes, she answered correctly that she has 14 of them. She put them in pairs, counted them again and found number 7.
Then she sorted them on two groups on the side were black shoes, and on the other side the rest .She counted and found the number.

  14. Miss Siswick says:

    Well done, Ania.

  15. Sam was good at this activity, even though Maggie was making it harder for him by stealing the shoes! He guessed that there were 10 shoes and, 5 pairs and found the matching cards.

He grouped them into 2 groups of white shoes and coloured shoes – 6 coloured shoes and 4 white shoes.

  16. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Sam. Maybe Maggie thought she was helping to challenge you with your Maths today!

  17. Nancy Bear says:

Philip really tried hard to fold the socks together!

And he found different ways of organizing the socks and shoes to be able to count them accurately. Lining up and then gathering in a bucket and counting as he removed each one.

Philip is really enjoying his school work this week ??

  18. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Philip. Those are two great ways to make sure that you count each object. I am glad that you are enjoying the tasks this week.

  19. Mrs Knowler says:

What great sorting, grouping and counting Nursery. You seem to have far more pairs of shoes than me! Although I think I left a few pairs in my locker at school. I may have to ask Mr Normunds to open the door next time he’s there. Otherwise the classroom may become a bit stinky!! ??
