Good Morning Year 2!

Click here for a printable version of the blog: PSHE Tuesday printable

I hope you are all well and having some fun at home. I am missing seeing you all each day and hope you are keeping safe.

We’ve missed some birthdays while school has been closed, so a BIG happy birthday to Bo, Anna, Esther, Layla and Adrien!

How did you celebrate your birthdays? What did you do with your families? Let us know on the blog. We wish you all a very happy 7th birthday.

School has been closed for a while now, and life is quite different to normal now. We really hope that everyone is okay, but it is okay to feel a little worried right now. Everyone, including parents, teachers and children, go through ‘wobbly days’ where we don’t quite feel ourselves. You might feel a bit like these pictures, just a little wobbly!

There are lots of things we can do to help when we feel like this. Miss Coleman has put up lots of News posts on the Website which your parents might like to read. There are ones on Mental Health, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, Keeping Healthy and Being Happy.

It is important to recognise what we are feeling, whether they are happy feelings or angry feelings. This lesson from BBC Bitesize will give you some advice on what to do when we feel like we can’t control our feelings. At school, we use the Zones of Regulation, which you can use at home as well.

I want us to help each other by sharing some fun ideas that you have been doing at home. Here are some things that you might be doing that you can share with everyone:

  • Have you made any delicious food? Can you share the recipe with us?
  • Have you played any fun games? Who do you play them with?
  • What have you been doing to keep active? Is it inside or outside?
  • Have you done any making or craft activities? What have you made?

Doing lots of these things have helped me while I’ve been at home. I have enjoyed doing lots of baking and made my own hot cross buns over Easter. My family and I play lots of games and love playing the game Linkee together which often play after we’ve had dinner. To keep active, I’ve been going on lots of runs. It’s a nice way to get some fresh air and I’ve loved seeing all the flowers in the park. I don’t have many craft materials at home, but I am trying to teach myself how to knit. It is quite tricky, and takes ages, but I am enjoying learning something new!

Now it’s your turn – what have you been doing? Tell us on the blog or send in some photos. We want to all share ideas so that we all have new things to try!

Missing you all and very much looking forward to hearing from you all,

Miss Carruthers x

  1. I had a great birthday!
What I did was I got to call some other people who wanted to say happy birthday to me. I got a fake puppy, a bell, a toy that I could do its hair for practice on. I also got a flash light because I am afraid of the dark. My favourite present was my slime kit.
I hope everybody had a great birthday!

  2. Miss Carruthers says:

I’m glad you managed to have such a fun birthday! Did it feel like a special day?
What have you been doing on other days for fun?

  3. Happy belated birthday Layla!

  4. I have been baking with my dad. We baked West Indian dumplings, which are called ‘bake’, they are scrumptious! I have also baked a cake and made pizza with my mum.
I play with my sister on the balcony. We play with the sand a water table and have ice lollies.
We go for a walk in the park when it is sunny and in the rain. I play football in my bedroom with my dad.
I have been playing scrabble and animal bingo, with my family and it is fun.

  5. Miss Carruthers says:

Joshua, all your cooking sounds delicious! Making your own pizza is an excellent idea – I might have to steal it and make my own one this week! I love that you have been playing so much, scrabble is a really fun game to play.

  6. Joshua you sound as though you have been very busy. I wish I could taste those West Indian dumplings. Your sister is looking such a big girl now. I expect you’re playing with her a lot and helping to look after her.

  7. Since I have been at home, I have been busy playing football and practising my ‘kicky uppies’ -I want to be able to do 20 and so far I am at 4. I have also been busy cooking, I have made bread, pizza and ‘rockie road’ marshmallow chocolate cakes.I do all of my school work before lunch and then I am free in the afternoon. I like to play on my Nintendo switch. I play FIFA and Minecraft. I look forward to every Thursday at 8pm, I go on to my balcony and make lots of noise. I blow my whistle and cheer for the NHS. Lots of my neighbours do it too! I enjoy being at home but I do miss seeing my school friends. I am going to play now so goodbye and I miss you all. Vincent

  8. Miss Carruthers says:

That’s such a good idea to give yourself a challenge to work towards. 20 kicky uppies is a good challenge – let us know how you get on. 4 is a good place to start, I’m sure you’ll get to 5 soon!
It’s normal to miss your school friends, we all miss you too Vincent!

  9. You’ll be an expert Vincent at those kicky uppies when we get back to school. You know I tried to do it once and it’s really quite hard – not as easy as it looks. I love clapping for the NHS too Vincent. I get a saucepan lid and a spoon and make a big noise through my window. It’s so moving to see everyone joining in isn’t it? I miss seeing all of you too. Hopefully we’ll be back together soon.

  10. I have had a great birthday!
When I woke up, there were balloons?and flags everywhere.
    I had cool presents ?.
I spent the afternoon with my family and our nanny Carole. We went to the park and ate cupcakes? then I opened my birthday card and more presents? .
We went home to play with the present called greedy granny and to read about nature in the book.
    Bye, Bo

  11. Miss Carruthers says:

What a wonderful birthday Bo! I’m glad you managed to have such a special day with your family.
Did you make the cupcakes yourself?

  12. Lovely Bo. I’m so glad you had a brilliant day.

  13. Sophia B says:

I made pizza ? with my dad ?,it tasted yummy in my tummy ?. Tomorrow it is my dad’s birthday ? and we have got him a lemon cake ?. I hope I can eat it because yesterday my tooth? came out. Now I have a big gap in the front of my mouth?. The tooth fairy ?came last night ?. I have been skipping, scootering and bike riding ?to keep healthy. We went to Hyde Park and saw a football player⚽ from Italy . I have been colouring? and doing Aquabeads.

  14. Miss Carruthers says:

That’s so exciting that your tooth fell out yesterday! I’m sure you’ll be able to eat some lemon cake tomorrow. Enjoy celebrating your dad’s birthday!

  15. I’m taking my exercise in Hyde Park everyday Sophia so I’ll have to look out for you – that’s if I recognise you without those teeth!

  16. Emilia and Isabella says:

We learned to make freshly baked bread and fresh egg pasta !
We are quite busy during the week because we have online Zoom classes for guitar ,ballet and Spanish. Also we go to the park every day and we bike ride or make up games with the ball.
We are having fun but we miss school too!

  17. Miss Carruthers says:

What delicious food you two have been making! I love the smell of freshly baked bread – your home must smell amazing!
You two have been very busy, but I’m glad you have so much to do. We all miss you too but you’re right, it’s good to still have fun!

  18. Ooh Emilia and Isabella. Is your mummy teaching you how to make some lovely Italian food? Fresh pasta is so nice. You both sound very busy. Like you, I’m missing school too.

  19. Hello Miss,
I have been going on roller blades and on my bicycle it was so fun.
I have also been doing some drawing things like shelf’s and pineapples.
I have been doing PE with Joe and I get tired very easily but it is very fun. This lunchtime I had a burger and it was homemade and it was delicious because my mum makes the best food.
We also have been playing UNO with my family and I love playing games with my family because I feel happy.

  20. Miss Carruthers says:

So many lovely activities! If you want, you can send in a picture of your drawings for us all to see?
I love playing UNO as well. You’re very lucky to have your mum making you such delicious food!

  21. Gabriel says:

    Hello Miss,
While quarantine, I have been playing games such as Monopoly and Minecraft. I also watch Netflix with my brothers. I ate some chips and some chicken with rice. It was very tasty. I hope you are safe and stay well.

  22. Miss Carruthers says:

I’m glad you’re having fun with your brothers! Thank you Gabi, I hope you are safe and well too.

  23. Mmm Gabi the chips, chicken and rice sounds very tasty!

  24. I baked a malteaser chocolate cake. It was absolutely delicious. My mum will send the recipe. I hope you all get to bake it too because it was scrumdiddiliumptious. (a mixture between delicious and scrumptious)
My dad and I made up a new game called “Who can roll down the hill fastest?” We play this in Regent’s Park. We have also been pigeon herding there. It is quite fun but also exhausting.
I have enjoyed playing monopoly against my mum and dad. Mum never wins. Daddy does sometimes but I win most of the time.
I posted a new letter to my nana today and decorated it with stickers. I loved doing that because she sent me the stickers in a letter. She sends me letters and I like getting them in the post.
I miss you all so much and I can’t wait to see you and the whole school again. Im going off to play now.
    Bye, bye.
P.S. Hope you are all having fun.

  25. Miss Carruthers says:

I can’t wait for the malteaser chocolate cake recipe, that sounds absolutely delicious!! I will definitely be making that!
I’m so glad you are playing lots of fun games, both at home and in the park. Writing letters to your nana is a lovely thing to do. I call my gran as often as I can because she is by herself too.
I miss you too, and can’t wait until we can all be back together again.

  26. Miss Carruthers says:

Nadine, your cake definitely looks scrumdiddiliumptious! Thank you for sharing it. If anyone else wants to make the cake (I know I do!) then here is the recipe Nadine used:

  27. It’s been lovely to read what you’ve all been up to. You all sound so busy doing so many different things. I can’t believe how quickly the day goes. I’m still trying to do Joe Wicks in the morning but I’m so glad none of you can see me. I usually go for a walk in Hyde Park, do some reading and cooking and before I know it the day has gone! I’m impressed with Miss Carruthers who is trying to learn to knit. She’ll have to meet my mum one day. She could help Miss Carruthers as she’s such a good knitter. People used to knit a lot more in the old days. I’m tempted to buy a small mosaic kit as I thought it was so much fun when we made one together in school. Missing all of you Year 2. Can’t wait to see you all again.

  28. I made banana ice pops. Squash a ripe banana until it is all mashed. Add to 160g Greek yogurt, we didn’t add honey. If you like honey then add 1 tsp. Mix, put in a mould and freeze it. Yummy.
I play chess with daddy. We set a timer for 30 seconds which makes the game more difficult. I play card games like Uno, I almost win every game.
Daddy and I like to cycle around London. We get to see different landmarks and get fit. The streets are very quiet.
I have been helping my mummy with Bethan. I like cuddling Bethan and sing ba ba black sheep to her. I help mummy by getting nappies and wipes for her.

  29. Miss Carruthers says:

Thanks for the recipe Finley! Those banana ice pops are going to be perfect for the next sunny day! I’m glad you’re still playing lots of chess, your chess teacher will be so impressed. It’s so special that you have lots of time with Bethan at the moment, I’m sure she loves your singing and spending time with her big brother!

  30. I love this Finley. You are already a proper big brother to Bethan. Yes I agree the streets are very quiet. I too am finding places I didn’t know existed.

  31. Dear miss Carruthers,
Me, my mum, my dad and my sister have all been making cupcakes and we have only made 1 cake. We have also played some games and at 2:00, we do exercise and put on some music! It is always so fun.

  32. Miss Carruthers says:

Sounds like you have been very busy in the kitchen! It’s also much more fun doing exercises and dances to music. I’m glad you are enjoying yourself!

  33. Dear Miss Carruthers,
I had a wonderful birthday. I could not wait ! We had a big party at home with my parents and my sister Allegra. Allegra baked a football cake with a lot of colours. It was a vanilla, chocolate and almond cake … so delicious! I had a lot of presents : a waterproof, phosphorescent, military watch, football gloves, a helicopter lego technic, football books and a lego porshe. I had a zoom party with a few friends… I was happy to see them! I have not finished yet my lego as it is very difficult and I think I made a mistake !!! I went to the park yesterday to try my new gloves but I am looking forward to playing with my friends soon as my mum is not as good as them!
I hope you are doing well. I miss you and Miss C and Miss O’Neil.
    Love from Adrien

  34. I’m so glad you had a lovely birthday Adrien. I understand how much you miss your friends and how much you are looking forward to seeing them. We miss all of you too.

  35. Mrs O’Neill says:

Happy birthday to all of you. I had a birthday to. It was on a Thursday, so when I went out to clap for our NHS my neighbours clapped for me and wished me happy birthday. It made my day extra special.

  36. Oh Mrs. O’Neill that sounds wonderful. I bet you hadn’t expected a birthday like that! I had a birthday too in April (looks like it was the month for birthdays) but mine wasn’t as exciting as your birthday Mrs. O’Neill -I didn’t have the whole street wishing me happy birthday. That will be a birthday to remember.

  37. Mrs B.O’Neill says:

Happy VE Day. However you are celebrating, enjoy x
