Religious Education Task

Saints

Saints are important people in the Christian faith. They were made saints for their acts of exceptional bravery and kindness.

Task

Choose one saint who you would like to find out about. This can be any saint, not just from the United Kingdom. Gather some information about them and write this on the blog. Try to choose different saints to others, so that we can all learn about a variety of saints.

Here is the saint I have chosen and some information!

Saint David

Saint David is the patron saint of Wales. His feast day falls on the 1st of March each year – this is called St David’s day. The day is celebrated by the people of Wales and people of Welsh background throughout the world.

St David was a Celtic monk, abbot and bishop, who lived in the sixth century. He spread the word of Christianity across Wales. St David became a renowned preacher.

The most famous miracle associated with St David took place when he was preaching to a large crowd in Llanddewi Brefi. When people at the back complained that they could not hear him, the ground on which he stood rose up to form a hill. A white dove, sent by God, settled on his shoulder.

Parades are held in Wales on St. David’s Day. The largest parade is held in Cardiff. Celebrations include concerts, a parade and a food festival featuring all Welsh produce.

I look forward to learning more about different saints from your research!

St. Francis and the taming of the wolf
    —————————————————
In this well known legend, St. Francis goes to the town of Gubbio, where a fierce wolf had been terrorizing the village and even killing some of the people , including children. During his visit to Gubbio ,Francis goes to meet the wolf when the wolf sees St. Francis, he comes charging at the Saint with his mouth open , ready to attack. St. Francis immediately makes the sign of the cross over him and says,”Come here,Brother wolf . I command on behalf of Christ that you do no harm to me or anyone “. As soon as St. Francis did this the fearsome wolf closed it’s mouth and stopped running; and one the command was given, it came weekly as a lamb, and threw itself at the feet of St. Francis .

Francis cuts a deal with the wolf
    ——————————————-
Then Saint Francis scolds the wolf for destroying and killing the creatures of God . “The whole town is complaining about you,”Francis tells the wolf gently .” But I want to make peace between you and the people. And so I promise that I will have food given to you regularly,Brother wolf, by the people of this town so that you were no longer suffer hunger. And I want you Brother wolf to promise not to harm the citizens of this village.” The wolf showed agreement simply bowing his head. So Francis asks the people of the town if they will promise to provide food for the wolf regularly. They all said yes.So the wolf lived happily in the village with food friends and people who love Brother wolf.

  8. Joseph is a figure in the Gospels, the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus and the step father of Jesus. In Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Anglican Christian traditions, he is regarded as
    Saint Joseph.

The Gospel of Luke says that the angel Gabriel came to Mary to tell her that she would give birth to a Son and she should call him Jesus and that he would save people from their sins. Mary said “How can this happen? I am a virgin!” The angel said “With God, anything can happen!”

When Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant, he decided to privately break the engagement. But then he had a dream. An angel told him that the baby was the Son of God.

At this time, the Roman Emperor, Caesar Augustus, made a law that everyone in the Roman Empire must pay tax. Everyone had to go back to the town that their family came from, to have their name put on the tax lists. Joseph came from Bethlehem, which was called “The City of David”. Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem and she gave birth to the baby, Jesus, in a stable, because there was no room for them.
