Good morning Year 1!

Today I would like you to research a Saint.

A saint is a special person who believed in the Christian faith. The person is no longer alive but they did extra special things to help people. They also told lots of people about God.

Here are a few saints that you might have heard of:

Please do some research and write down what you found out! There are a lot of saints so you will have to pick 1 or 2!  I used Kid Rex for a safe search. I look forward to seeing your research!

  1. I chose two saints, the angel Gabriel and St Elizabeth, my little sister’s name.
    Saint Gabriel was one of the three archangels. He s recognised as a patron saint of the messenger and postal workers. His feast day is celebrated on September 29 along with St. Michael and St. Raphael.
    St. Elizabeth is the wife of Zacharias and the cousin of the Virgin Mary. Zacharias received the visit of the angel Gabriel who said his wife will give birth to a son and he will be called John. The feast day of St. Elizabeth is celebrated on November 5.

    Saint Nicholas is the Patron Saint of Children. He gave gifts to people in secret and that’s why people think he is Santa Claus. He was a very good man who spent his life making things better for others. His feast day is the 6th December and he was Greek. St Francis is the Patron Saint of Italy, animals and the environment. He spent his life caring for sick and lost animals. He told them stories about God. He wanted to keep the environment good. His feast day is the 4th October.

  5. St Anne is my Grandmother’s middle name and also my saint name that I was baptised with. St Anne is the Mother of Mary and also the Grandmother of Jesus.

    She is also the patron Saint of Sailors and the protector of storms.

    Our nearest church is Saint Anne’s Church,Soho.

    Saint Eugene was born in France. His feast day is May 21. He founded the Missionaries Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He was made a saint by Pope John Paul II, in 1998.

    Saint James was an apostle and his brother was John. His feast day is July 25. I like him as he was called ‘Sons of Thunder’

  9. Saint Joseph was married to Mary and he raised Jesus as his son. He was a carpenter. He saw an angel and the angel told him that the baby Mary was holding was the son of God.

  11. I did my research on Saint Teresa. Mother Teresa became a saint on 4 September 2016.
    She used to teach children of rich families but then decided to go live with the poor people because she wanted to help them.

  13. St Patrick is a patron of Ireland and he was a good man who has been kidnapped by pirates and took him to Ireland, he built many churches and spread the word of God all across Ireland.

  15. St. Lorenzo Ruiz
    He is the first Filipino saint. His canonization took place at the Vatican on October 18, 1987. He is the patron saint of Filipino youth, the Philippines, people working overseas and altar servers. His feast day is September 28.

    St. Joseph
    He is the patron saint of the Universal Church, families, fathers, expectant mothers, travellers, immigrants and working people in general.
    His feast day is March 19.

  17. My middle name is Christopher. I chose Saint Christoper because I love the name. Saint Christopher took a child across a river and was wondering why the child was so heavy. When asked, the child replied that saint Christopher was carrying the weight of the world. The name means Christ-bearer.
    He is the patron saint of travellers and children. His feast day July 25th.

  19. Saint Lucia was killed for being a Christian. After her death there were many miracles due to her. Her feast day is 12 December and in countries like Italy, they celebrate her day with traditional Italian food.

  21. Sant David is the patron saint of Wales. He founded a monastery and a church at Glyn Rhosyn. Beside praying and celebrating masses, they cultivated the land and carried out many craft in this monastery. They also fed and clothes the poor and needy.

  23. St Louise was a young widow who lived in Paris at the same time as Vincent de Paul. She belonged to the nobility, but her experience of the personal rejection by her family as a child born out side of marriage,made her particularly sensitive to the suffering of the others.

  25. My favourite St is Saint Valentines. I like Saint Valentines because he helped people get married. He got put in jail because he broke the law because the Emperor banned marriages. He always believed in love. He loved the blind girl but he still chose to die. I like valentines day because it reminds me of Saint Valentines and everything he did for the people. And we get to eat heart-shaped chocolate.

  27. I choose St. Peter because he was Jesus’s friend. He was crucified like Jesus because he keeps talking about Jesus to the soldiers. And he was the first of the 12 apostles of Jesus. His mission was to build the first Church in the World. We celebrate St. Peter in the 29th of June!
    I also choose St. Michael the Archangel because he is the winner of
    the battles and he is a protector of soldiers, police, doctors and sickness. I saw in a video that he killed 1 body of dragon with 7 heads and 1 spike in their heads and altogether they have 10 spikes. We celebrate him in the 29th of September!

  28. I have chosen saint Christopher and saint Elizabeth. saint Christopher carried a child across the sea and he said why are you so heavy. and the child said you are carrying the weight of the world. He was carrying Jesus.
    Saint Elizabeth gave money to the poor and one day some men told her that she should stop helping the poor. Then one day she was giving some bread to the poor and then her husband came. He then asked her what was in her basket and she showed it to him and there were only some roses in the basket. Her husband was pleased.
