Hello Class 4!

This is our final lesson on Pentecost – New Life.

Next week we begin our new topic in Religious Education.

Take a few moments to be still and reflect. Think about what you have learnt so far during our Pentecost topic…

Christians believe that the Spirit of God is active in each person and, in a special way, in the community of believers, which is the Church.  It is the work of the Spirit to enable people to hear God’s message and to live Jesus’ way of service.

We all face difficulties throughout our life, but good news and The Good News of Jesus bring us joy and remind us that God and Jesus are with us through the Holy Spirit. This feeling of being brought alive by good news helps us to feel happy, appreciative and loved.

The apostles were witnesses to Jesus being raised to new life by God.  The Holy Spirit confirmed their faith in Jesus and gave them the courage they needed to speak out about the Good News of Jesus even when they were threatened.

Paul was originally called Saul.  He was a Jew who came from Tarsus.  He grew up in a Jewish home.  He was a Pharisee and did everything he could to be a good man.  He kept every rule there was to keep, but he did not like the followers of Jesus.  He did his best to wipe them out; however, God filled his mind and heart with the light of truth, and he recognised who Jesus was.  He knew he owed everything to God’s love.  All he wanted to do was spread the Good News of that love all over the world.  When he became a Christian his name was changed to Paul.

He travelled many thousands of miles, on foot, on horseback and by boat to spread the Good News, mainly to the Gentiles, the people who were not Jews.  In every place, he told people about Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.  He explained the Good News that Jesus had come to bring – God loves everyone.  He told them how Jesus had died and been raised to a new life by his Father in heaven and how the Holy Spirit helps people.  He told them that Jesus wanted them to share this new life.  When they asked him what they had to do to live this new life, he told them that they must believe and be baptised and try to live like Jesus, loving God and loving one another.  They were to share their faith with one another, pray together and break bread together as Jesus had done with his friends at the Last Supper.

He had many adventures during his journeys.  He was shipwrecked and was imprisoned several times.  Paul would start a Christian community in a town and then move on to another place.  He would often write to the people of the town where the Christian community had been started, offering them advice and encouragement. Sometimes he sent one of his friends to help them.

Whilst it is important to learn of the work of Jesus’ Apostles, it is also important that we learn from their actions and teachings. As Catholics, we must try to live out what we learn in our every day lives in order to become closer to God.

Your Task…

Using  some of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit e.g. love, joy and peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trust, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control;  say  how you would live these out in everyday situations at school and at home and what difference it would make to you and to others.

Try to use some of these keywords in your writing and make sure you explain each of your ideas clearly.
life, good news, Resurrection, Pentecost, Holy Spirit, fellowship

Next, create some artwork to go with your writing showing one or more of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Think carefully about the colours and symbols used to show these.

You can use paints, coloured pencils, felt tips, collage… anything you like to create your beautiful art.

When you’ve finished, send in a picture so that I can post it on the blog! You can choose to do the writing task on the blog or hand write and then send in a photo with your art.

I can’t wait to see your work!

Here are some ideas…

  7. Hello miss this is my religious education work.
    Hope you in joy!

At school, you use gentleness and kindness because you don’t fight or argue. You have trusted friends which makes you more confident in maybe your work. A friend can help you when you get stuck or it can play which you at break time. To be kind at school, you can hold the door to your teachers and classmates. Or you can help other people if they need your help. Being enthusiastic can really make your teacher happy even if your not interested in the subject (even though you should be).

At school you are very faithful because one of the subjects are religious education (R.E). You learn about different faiths and that you must always respect people. Even though in your school you might not have this subject, it does not mean you should not believe in any. Having a faith is very important. It can make people really happy because they have someone to share your feelings to and someone to pray to in sad moments. It is very important to have something to believe in. You can go to any kind of church.

In your family you share love and trust to each other because you know you can with no problem. You have been with them for your whole time now and you think -wait no- you know you can trust them and that they will protect you as any other parents.
You know you love them and you know they Love you as much as you love them which is infinitely. Sometimes you get upset but that does not mean your love stops for a second or two. They are always there when you need them and so are you!

Self-control (self-discipline) is that gift which delivers you from temptation. In lent it is really produced. It is when you really want to do something but you know you shouldn’t and you din’t. You might want to eat chocolate, though your Lenten promise was to not eat it.
Then you turn to God and say,” Help me to not eat this chocolate.”
That would be self-control. You should always resist temptation because it is always the sight of devil tricking you into doing it.
Once you turn to God, you step one more step to the path of God.

    Hello Stella!
Lovely ideas about giving your friends confidence and showing enthusiasm at school… as you always do!
A wonderful paragraph about having faith and how this gives us someone to share our feelings with through prayer.
I love your paragraph about family and how they are there for us no matter what and we are there for our family members too!
Well done, it is always important to remember that God is there for us.
Super ideas and explanations! Well done!

  9. When someone is sad I will make them feel better. I know how to be a good person and I know that the Holy Spirit is always with me. I can spread the good news to everyone so we all know Jesus is always with us. I have an amazing life and a have lots of fellowship in me. Pentecost is the reason we have this because of the resurrection and the Holy Spirit came down.

  10. Hi everyone,
Miss, my mum sent my picture.

  12. I will live out these words (love, joy and peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trust, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control) by using self control when people are frustrating me.
To show love, I will help my mum by being patient and doing shopping with her.
I will show trust by telling my brother my secrets.

  13. Miss Lee says:

Lovely ideas about helping your mum and using self-control, well done!

  22. I would like to use God’s gifts in my everyday life more and more. The Holy Spirit brought a message of love and joy and told me to spread the Good News. I promise to do small act of kindness especially with my brother: that would help the peace of the all family.
    Please see my collage!

  23. Miss Lee says:

Small acts of kindness is a lovely idea!

  24. In Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down to the apostles and help them spread the Good News. I think in our daily life, we need to think about the gifts of the Holy Spirit to guide us. Like when someone is alone, I will try to cheer them up. If someone is hurt, I will try to comfort them. If someone has no friends I will become one. We need to love and to be kind to one another as how Jesus loves us. The Holy Spirit is the light that will guide us in our times of darkness. Miss Lee, I am going to send a picture of my drawing ??.

  25. Miss Lee says:

Wonderful ideas Clare and I love your drawing! Well done!

  26. I try to be kind and generous whenever I can wherever I can. When my friends are sad I will try to cheer them up and help them.

  27. At school ? and at work ? (if you are a grown up) you use patience when you listen to your teacher ?‍?, or if you are on a call ? at work you listen to the person you are speaking to, and it might take a long time ?. You can also use patience at home ? by listening to what your parents are saying, and that also may take long.
    ————————————————
    Hi ? Miss Lee,

I am only writing ✍️ in a example for patience because it is very late at night ? and I am getting quite tired ?. Mum has sent in my artwork ? and I am hoping to talk to you tomorrow (virtually) ?.

  28. Raimundo says:

When someone is hurt or lonely, I will help them. And if you are kind, you can make more friends and the more friends you make, the less lonely you’ll be. We should stay connected, so it can bring us joy and so we can see our friends. At school, we show kindness to everyone if you are kind, you should know that you have the holy spirit, and we should spread the good news of Jesus’s resurrection.
(I will send you my picture :D)

  29. Raimundo says:
