DT- Egyptian Bread

Bread was a very important part of Ancient Egyptians diets. Can you choose, research and create your own Egyptian bread?

Some suggestions for you to look at:

·         Saboob (Egyptian Flatbread)

·         Palace Bread (sweet bread)

·         Mahlab Bread

Once you have made your bread, answer the following evaluation questions:

  • What do you like about the bread you made?
  • Is your chosen bread as you expected? (look at recipe images) If not, why might this be?
  • Did you have to solve any problems?
  • If I were to do this again, what would you do differently?
  • How did it taste?

I would love to see what you make so you could also include a drawing/photo of your bread!

Remember to have fun 🙂

Ready, steady, bake!

Yes- I put too many Nigella seeds on at first but we took them off.

4)If I were to do this again, what would you do differently?
I cooked some of them for a bit too long.

  9. We made sweet bread rolls.
1/ What do you like about the bread you made?
It smells delicious and has sugar.
2/ Is your chosen bread as you expected? (look at recipe images) If not, why might this be?
It was too sticky to made into ropes so we made blobs.
3/ Did you have to solve any problems?
We could not find dry yeast so we used fresh yeast. We used a third of the amount of fresh yeast.
The recipe says to let the dough rise for 4 hours but we had to go out for the day so it exploded.
4/ If I were to do this again, what would you do differently?
Use dry yeast and not go out for the day.
    5/ How did it taste?
It tastes a bit like cake because it is sweet. I like it.

  10. It’s great to hear that you had to problem solve when you couldn’t find exactly what you needed Finley 🙂 The bread rolls sounds delicious, well done!

  11. 1) What do you like about the bread you made?
I like how the bread tasted really good with hummus.

    2) Is your chosen bread as you expected? (look at recipe images) If not, why might this be?
The bread did not come as I expected because it didn’t rise like it did in the recipe images.

    3) Did you have to solve any problems?
The dough stuck to the cutting board so we had to take the dough off using a flipper. That was the only problem.

4)If I were to do this again, what would you do differently?
I would not put sugar in it.

    5)How did it taste?
It tasted a bit like pizza dough.

  12. Well done Luisa! This is brilliant 🙂

I decided to make the Saboob flat bread
I found it quick and easy to make and it was very crispy

It looked very similar to the pictures I saw online, I will upload the picture now

    Nothing went wrong.
If I were to do this next time, I might add some butter to make the bread softer.

    2. I expected it to be like normal bread.
3.I had to cut the recipe in half so we had to do maths.
    4. No, because I tasted better when it was soft.
    5. It tasted like pizza rolls.

I am going to be bringing pictures in today.
