Science: Rocks and Fossils

This week there is a simple experiment for you to carry out at home! For this experiment you will need an adult to help you.

Soil Mixing with Water

First fill a quarter of a small empty water bottle with soil.

Then fill the rest of the bottle with water.

Shake it well and leave to stand for a few days.

Draw and label a diagram of your bottle.

Key questions to think about and record:

  • What do you notice over the following few days?
  • What different layers can you see?

Have fun!

  1. I have put a quarter of soil and filled it up with water. I shook it well and now I just have to wait for a few days to see what happens.

  2. Very exciting! Let me know what you find.

  3. At first when we put the water in with the dirt it was just black, then about half an hour later the water and dirt separated. But when you shake them together turn black for about half an hour again and then they separate again. What a mouthful!

  4. Great observations Rex!

  5. Hi?? Miss Drury
