Last week, we started our Religious Education topic ‘Baptism.’ During this topic we will focus on the theme of ‘Welcoming.’ To enhance our learning about Baptism, today we visited St James’ Church. We met with Father Philip and he talked to us about Baptism and what this means. We asked Father Philip some questions we had thought carefully about together in school.

After Father Philip answered our questions, he showed us around the Church. We looked at some special areas inside the Church including Our Lady’s Chapel and the Baptistery. It was interesting to see the big font inside the Baptistery which holds the holy water. Father Philip also told us about the Easter candle. During every baptism, this candle is lit and a special baptism candle for the baby is lit from the big Easter candle.

Father Philip also showed us some special statues in the Church including St Anne, Our Lady and Jesus, St Joseph, St Peter and St Luke.

Thank you to Father Philip for helping us with our learning today!

Reception, what did you enjoy finding out about during our visit to the Church?
