This half term, we have been learning about gymnastics with a focus on putting together movements to create in a routine in our Physical Education lessons with our QPR coaches.

Before every PE lesson, we know how important it is to warm up and get our bodies ready for PE and we do this performing different stretches to focus on different parts of our bodies.

In our recent lessons, we have been learning about the different individual balances such as star, pike and dish. We also then moved onto partner balances in which we had to work together to hold a balance for 5 seconds which is harder than it looks!

We have been learning to perform jumps with control (which means that when we land, we stay still on the mat and try not to fall down). Within our groups, we took turns to perform the jumps onto the mats and then got feedback from our group members. Some of us had to work on making sure we bent our knees on landing and used our arms for balance to keep nice and still. We aimed for a soft landing to help us achieve this!

More recently, we have been putting this altogether to create a routine in small groups that includes 3 different movements and 3 different stretches. Everyone in our group had to take part and perform the routine in front of the whole class! (How nerve-racking!) Our challenge was then to create a new routine that had 4 different movement and 4 different stretches.

We are really enjoying exploring different movements and stretchesΒ  in Physical Education and have worked well with others to create our sequences, they have been amazing to watch!

  5. It has been a success learning about gymnastics. I liked when we were doing moves and poses as a team. It was very funny and good to learn about gymnastics and all the poses we have learnt. In my team, we tried to do funny and good moves. There were also teams that was good and funny when I watched them we tried to do as good as that. I loved it and I can not wait for the next session!
