Florence Nightingale

In our Art lesson today we were exploring a portrait of the great Florence Nightingale.

Florence was well remembered for her outstanding bravery as a nurse in the Crimean war in 1854. Florence was often called ‘The Lady with the Lamp.’ Each evening, Florence made her rounds of the hospital with a lamp in her hand. She walked along miles of dark corridors so that she could talk to all the sick soldiers. Florence’s care for them made the soldiers feel much better.

In our Art lesson we looked at a portrait of Florence Nightingale. We discussed her features and looked at light and dark tones in the portrait and how we could create these using a pencil when sketching. We created our own sketches of Florence incorporating light and dark tones.

We are very proud of our work, please have a look!
