This week is Art Week! Today we looked at a new artist, Andy Goldsworthy.

We looked at some of his artwork, all created out of things he has found in nature! Our class challenge this week was to collect as many leaves, flowers, twigs or petals they could find, all in preparation for our Art Week activity. Nursery found and collected so many amazing things, which enabled them to channel Andy Goldsworthy and create some amazing pieces.

First we shared all of the collected items found in nature, and discussed what we could all see including shapes, colours and where the items were found! Then we looked closer at some Andy Goldsworthy art pieces, and we noticed that he focused on creating art into circles and spirals. In pairs, the group practiced making circles and spirals out of the collected items.

Next we practiced drawing spirals and circles onto our paper, and following the circle or spiral with the glue, all ready for the collected nature items to create art on their pages! The group were able to follow the lines of their spirals and circles just like Andy Goldsworthy, carefully placing and pushing the petals, leaves and twigs onto their page.

The outcome was fantastic! You can see so many different shapes and colours on everyone’s pictures, and the spirals and circles created from nature just like the artist.
