In Year 6, we have been learning about the life and work of Yinka Shonibare, a British-Nigerian artist, who has overcome disability to become a highly acclaimed artist, known for a variety of artistic techniques. We focussed on his collage work as inspiration for our own art work, in particular his piece called ‘Line Painting’.
We learned that Yinka Shonibare often chooses to use African fabrics for his mixed media work so we designed our own patterns and created our own fabrics influenced by African fabrics using cloth, water colours, pens and paint.
Inspired by the work of Yinka Shonibare, we have created our own collages. Using the fabrics which we designed and painted last term, we created these fantastic artworks with the theme of ‘Identity’. We have joined all the pieces together to create one amazing class artwork.
It was so fun learning about Yinka Shonibare. On my artwork, I added red and blue hearts and dark blue and orange flowers. I also added multicoloured squares to make my artwork stand out and to make my artwork more modern. I really enjoyed this artist because I liked the collages.
It was a fabric . then we painted them with water colours . And then we had the choice to either print or use pens . i chose pens. I had so much fun!!! Thank you Miss Siswick for letting us do this great activity!
